Wale – The Artistic Integrity (video)

Posted in Artists, Mixtapes, Videos on June 26th, 2008 by Hyphen

Here’s the new video from DC’s finest (aka the second best Nigerian rapper I know), Wale, and super producer Rik Cordero.  This song stands for pretty much everything I believe in as a DJ.  Unfortunately, about 1% of the other DJ’s, artists, producers, and industry folk in the entertainment world feel the same way.  Big shout to you if you’re repping that 1% though.  Keep fighting the good fight with us.

“The Artistic Integrity” is off Wale’s excellent Seinfeld inspired project, The Mixtape About Nothing.  If you missed it when it dropped, you can catch up via the download right here.

Talib Kweli – Eat To Live (video)

Posted in Artists, Videos on June 26th, 2008 by Hyphen

I’m not sure why Talib felt the need to drop another video off Eardrum, but I’m not mad at all.  The whole album is dope as hell, so if you’ve been sleeping, go cop it.  This song was produced by Madlib and talks about one of life’s basic necessities.  Did you know there’s a worldwide food crisis right now?  Are you doing anything about it?

Annoying as hell

Celtic Fail

Dreamhost was trippin’ and TAOD was down from for the entire afternoon/evening.  Third time this has happened in like a month and a half.  Hopefully we’re back up and running just fine, but I suppose the one positive of an outage is that I get to post a new fail pic each time.  Sorry bout that y’all.

Throwback: Raphael Saadiq ft. D’Angelo – Be Here

Posted in Artists, Joints, Throwbacks on June 25th, 2008 by Hyphen

Saadiq

The official long distance relationship anthem.  Good looooooooord we need new D’Angelo in our lives.  Thankfully, it looks like that might just be happening…finally.  I’ll believe it when I hear it though.  In the meantime, we’ve got joints like this one from Raphael Saadiq’s criminally underrated Instant Vintage album to look back upon.

Raphael Saadiq ft. D’Angelo – “Be Here”

Check the video too.

“See, I got more than just some good d**k and some money…”  Classic.

Half “Cindy”

Posted in Sports on June 25th, 2008 by Hyphen

Barack

(see, even Barack does CrossFit)

Next time you’re in the gym, try “Cindy“…or like I did tonight, half of it:

5 pull ups
10 push ups
15 air squats

That’s one round.  Do as many rounds as possible in 10 minutes (the real “Cindy” workout is 20 minutes…yeesh).

Tonight = 9 full rounds + 5 pull ups

My goal for next time is 10 full rounds in 10 minutes.  Very doable.  Try it!  Shout to Foundation Fitness.

Jelani – Wait, You Can Rap?!?!

Posted in Artists, Joints on June 24th, 2008 by Hyphen

Jelani

He most certainly can.  If you’re not familiar with Jelani, get familiar.  The Cliff Notes version is that he’s a dope MC from New York that runs with the homey 6th Sense and Notherground Music.  He’s also the legendary Dapper Dan‘s son.  Notherground just dropped his album, Wait, You Can Rap?!?!, for free, and I highly recommend you check it out.  “The Proposal” is my jam right now.  Tracklisting and download link after the jump!

Donny Goines – What U Expected (Live Video)

Posted in Artists, Joints on June 24th, 2008 by Hyphen

My man Jon Master sent this over and y’all definitely need to be familiar with the MC in this video, Donny Goines.  Dude has been beasting over the past year and one of my favorite songs of the moment is “What U Expected,” produced by Statik Selektah (who’s been KILLING it under the radar for a minute now).  Check the live performance at JM’s “Faces In The Crowd” showcase and here’s the studio version for y’all too:

Zo! and Tigallo Love The 80’s (artwork)

Posted in Artists, Joints on June 24th, 2008 by Hyphen

Zo! and Tigallo

Hahahahaha, I can’t wait for this.  If you’re sleeping, Phonte from Little Brother is teaming up with the immensely talented Zo! to drop an EP full of classic 1980’s remakes later this year. They just put out the cover artwork and it pretty much sums up the project perfectly.  Here are the tracks that they’ve leaked so far:

Zo! and Tigallo – “Africa”
Zo! and Tigallo – “Steppin’ Out”
Zo! and Tigallo ft. Carlitta Durand – “Take On Me”

Stay up to date with Zo! and Tay at the project’s MySpace page.  I know Percy Miracles died a while ago, but I hope he makes an appearance on this.  Perhaps they have something from the vaults…

Sidenote: the audacity of putting an exclamation mark at the end of your name is freaking fantastic.  You’re literally forced to be excited when talking about Zo!!  See?  Brilliant.
