One of my favorite artists in the industry, SoulStice, came through Sound Session again recently to chop it up. If you missed our interview from last year where we covered a lot of his background (from the Chi, relocated to DC) and previewed his Dead Letter Perfect album, you can download it here. This time around, we talked about the reception that album received, his upcoming Beyond Borders project, the various hip-hop scenes around the world, the presidential race, how he balances his music career with his day job at the Department of Defense, and more.
It’s always fun to talk about substantive issues with real intelligent artists who are passionate about their music and their ideas. Sadly, that’s kind of rare in this industry, so I enjoy it when people like SoulStice come through. Another dope Sound Session in the books, as we played great joints from artists like Q-Tip, Wale, Rhymefest, Bishop Lamont, Game, Shawn Jackson, Buff1, and many more. We also debuted an instant NW classic by our friends The Parker Brothaz, which features Talib Kweli, Big Pooh, and Naledge. Crazy track. We ran another posse cut that’s all over the net these days, the new one from T.I. featuring Kanye, Jay, and Wayne, when we gave away tickets to see Tip and Keyshia Cole at the upcoming Bumbershoot festival. Just when the Olympics end, the EPL season starts to pick up…chyea.
Well, I guess that would technically be at the same time. Tried my first “Barbara” last night:
20 pull ups, 30 push ups, 40 sit ups, 50 squats
5 rounds for time
Finished in 25:33, though I think I can definitely shed a few minutes off that the next time I do it. I kinda paced myself a bit too much in the early rounds, rather than going all out from the start. I thought it would be easier than “Angie” (100 reps of each, straight through), but the advantage gained from splitting up the exercises goes out the window with the additional reps.
Today’s WOD on Crossfit.com turned out to be “Angie,” so I knocked that out again and finished in 18:49, three seconds slower than last time. Until I start doing these on a bar where I can kip, I’m thinking I might be nearing my top time. Hmm, we’ll see. Foundation Crossfit RAINSTORM (free workout) at 100th & Lake City Way on Saturday at 12PM for all my Seattle people! Be there.

Finally! Here’s the oft-talked about video for one of the best songs of the year, John Legend’s “Green Light” with Andre 3000. I’m hard pressed to think of a better guest verse on a R&B song than what Dre drops here. Ridiculous. Also, you get a quick preview of another track off Evolver, “Good Morning,” right at the end. Dope ish.
