GGR

Honestly, I’m amazed Phonte and Brainchild have time for these excellent podcasts.  I always feel like I’m incredibly busy and constantly have projects to finish, but I know these guys do as well.  The fact that they do all their work and put out these episodes of GGR so often shows you how much they love the music.

The interview I recorded with Tay at Rock The Bells will be coming soon…as soon as I get a minute to put it online!  In the meantime, enjoy GGR #9, where he even speaks on the concert in the intro:

Butta Verses ft. Lucian – If I Die (video)

Posted in Artists, Joints, Music Videos on September 12th, 2008 by Hyphen

(that 3rd verse is real.)

As I mentioned a while back, Butta is an honorary member of our Seattle hip-hop community plus he’s dope as hell, so you know I’m posting the video for his lead single from Reality BV.  The album drops digitally Tuesday, cop that!

Will Smith + Ukulele + Crazy German Dude = GOLD

Posted in Artists, Comedy, Live Performances, Videos on September 12th, 2008 by Hyphen

It would have been hilarious if he said “nazi” instead of “not see.”  Ok, well maybe just to me.  Anyway, no idea what this is from, but it’s great.  I literally grew up on Jazzy Jeff and the Fresh Prince, so Will is one of my all-time favorite people.  Next time I’m at the club (which won’t be soon if you know me), I’m breaking out the MiB dance.  Stop me.

*crosses fingers that scientology rumor isn’t true*

Q-Tip – Gettin’ Up (official video)

Posted in Artists, Music Videos on September 12th, 2008 by Hyphen

While an unofficial video for this leaked a while back, here’s the real deal.  I dig this song, but something about the Greg Nice style rhyming kinda annoys me, I can’t front.  Still good to see Tip coming with another album and it was dope to see him at Rock The Bells last weekend.  Here’s an ill pic of Mos Def pointing out Tip’s lyrics to “Excursions” as he spit ’em.  Ill.

Shout to Dreezy for the great picture…

Wayne

Two weeks through the all-Wayne WLotD and I’ll just say this: some rappers are very lucky this is Wayne’s month, because I’ve been hearing a lot of horrible lines lately.  Ice Cube, I’m looking at you.

“Yeah, I’m so bright, not shady/
My teeth and my ice so white like Shady”
–Lil’ Wayne, “Barry Bonds”

He really thought that was clever?

Ever since I saw those In Living Color skits with Jamie Foxx and David Alan Grier reciting “poetry from the hood,” this kind of stuff has been hilarious to me.  Shout to McFly for sending this over.
