Don’t sleep on Sound Session…ask Eclipse

Posted in Artists, Comedy, Sound Session on December 21st, 2008 by Hyphen

Cause if you do, you might be videotaped and clowned.

Big shout to Eclipse and Stretch of The Parker Brothaz, one of the dopest up and coming groups in hip-hop and some of the nicest talent we have here in the Pacific Northwest. When you’re on the grind like they are though, sometimes you get a little tired. Hopefully you don’t pass out on the air like Eclipse did on when they dropped by Sound Session recently on Episode #181.

And just so y’all don’t think I did the homies dirty, Stretch hooked up the video and gave me the go ahead.  Hahahaha, sorry Clipse!

But on the real, don’t sleep on these dudes…no pun.  Y’all heard the remix to their “Text Me” joint with Big Pooh, Naledge, and Talib Kweli?  Smoooooooooth.

Black Milk & Elzhi perform at Red Bull Big Tune in Seattle

Posted in Artists, Live Performances, Videos on December 21st, 2008 by Hyphen

As I showed y’all yesterday, we’re snowed in here in Seattle and as a matter of fact, it’s even worse than it was during that video.  I think we’re up to about half a foot of packed snow on the ground, with no signs of it letting up for the next few days.  It’s really cool looking outside and fun to walk around in, but the downside is that I’ve been stuck around my house for 4 days straight now.  Wait…that’s probably not such a bad thing…I have good food, a warm place, football (and futbol!) on TV, and I’ve been able to finish up a ton of work.  I take it back, this snow thing is kinda dope.

Well, aside from the fact that I haven’t done any Christmas shopping yet and I’m suppose to be moving in 10 days.  If I have to move my couch on ice skates, I’ma be very, very upset.

Anyway, in the meantime, I’ve been getting some old projects finished.  Here’s some simple Flip Cam footage I grabbed of the homies Black Milk and Elzhi performing at the Red Bull Big Tune stop here in Seattle on 9/12/08.  If you recall, we recorded a dope interview with them the day before, which you can still check out right here.

At the show, they ran through some of their illest songs, including “Sound The Alarm,” “Motown 25,” “Hiding Place,” “1, 2,” and more.  If you’ve never seen Milk and El rock live, you’re missing out.

Sunday Night Snow Session

Posted in Random Ish, Videos on December 21st, 2008 by Hyphen

What can I say…I was bored and needed to get out of the house.  Seeing as how its been snowing for 10+ hours now and the roads are completely covered, I’m guessing there won’t be an episode of Sound Session tonight.  I’m hoping to have some cool stuff to post up in the next few days to make it up to y’all.  We’ll see.

In the meantime, stay warm!

Shad spazzed out…wow.

Posted in Artists, Live Performances, Videos on December 19th, 2008 by Hyphen

I think Shad is my favorite discovery of this past year.  I know he’s been doing his thing for years, but apparently I was sleeping cause I just caught on to him at the end of 2007.  Better late than never though and in fact, this video is from back in July, but the new homey G just shot it over and I was floored.  This dude is crazy.

Be on the lookout for big things from Shad in ’09.  He’ll be at SXSW in March and on the Warped Tour all year, including a Seattle stop in August.  Prior to that, it looks like he’ll be out here in the Pacific NW rocking shows, so I’ll keep y’all posted when things get announced.  In the meantime, be sure to cop The Old Prince asap.

Anthony Hamilton – A Change Is Gonna Come (video)

Posted in Artists, Live Performances, Music Videos on December 19th, 2008 by Hyphen

I would imagine that everyone prefers Sam Cooke’s original version, but of all the R&B singers out today, Hamilton is one of a few that could pull this off nicely.  The original is beyond classic, but Anthony does a pretty damn good job.

Similar To The Letters Front

Another day, another dope mixtape…this one from the homey Roosevelt Treasurechest, GLC, and the fine folks over at Ruby Hornet.  It featues a bunch of new tracks, unreleased joints, and live performances from GLC, which should get you ready for his upcoming G.O.O.D. Music project, Love, Life, and Loyalty, coming in 2009.  While you wait for that, bump this.

Murs live at Amoeba Music

Posted in Artists, Live Performances on December 19th, 2008 by Hyphen

I think I remember seeing this footage go around the blogs back at the end of September, but I never posted it up for some reason.  As I mentioned in the post on his Sound Session appearance, Murs is one of the hardest working artists out there.  He consistently puts his all into his live performances, and that’s on display here in the footage from Amoeba’s Hollywood store.  Peep the video and watch him run through tracks like “Better Than The Best,” “H-U-S-T-L-E,” “Bad Man,” “Can It Be,” “Silly Girl,” “Lookin’ Fly,” and more.

Thanks to Paul for sending this through.

Royce The 5’9″ – Shake This (video)

Posted in Artists, Music Videos on December 19th, 2008 by Hyphen

Have Royce and Premier ever combined for a bad, or even mediocre, song?  Nope!  This is another banger, though I think it might be the first collaboration of theirs without the signature Preem cuts in the hook.  No matter, it’s still a great beat and Royce kills it with some more introspective lyrics that remind me of his Death Is Certain days.  Shout to Rik Cordero for yet another dope video too.

Convinced – Miss Memory (director’s cut) (video)

Posted in Artists, Music Videos on December 18th, 2008 by Hyphen

I’ve been meaning to post up this joint for a while now, cause I’ve been playing it a ton over the past month.  I love this track.  Convinced is yet another dope MC from the new breed of Los Angeles artists, who are killing everything they touch these days.  Speaking of Cali, this joint really reminds me of my college days…for many reasons.  Peep it and then go download Convinced’s Refreshing project on his blog right here.

Shout to Eighties Baby as well!
