Asher Roth ft. Akon – Last Man Standing (video)

Posted in Artists, Music Videos on September 14th, 2011 by Hyphen

While I don’t think this single is necessarily one of Asher’s stronger lyrical performances recently, I wonder if there are people out there that still don’t realize he can really rhyme.  If so, you must not have peeped the EP with Notttz, nor some of the random leaks from the past year.  I’m looking forward to Asher’s sophomore album solidifying his place in the game and erasing any thoughts that it was solely about “I Love College.”

Tony Bennett & Amy Winehouse – Body and Soul (video)

Posted in Art, Music Videos on September 14th, 2011 by Hyphen

This collaboration between Tony Bennett and Amy Winehouse marks the final track Amy recorded before passing away.  Today would have been her 28th birthday.  RIP Amy.

I feel like this Tony Bennett duets album might get a lot of spins around the loft during the cold weather this winter, but I’m a little worried to see folks like Lady Gaga and Mariah Carey on the tracklisting…

AraabMuzik at Fortune Sound Club (Vancouver) Sept. 22nd

Posted in Artists, Live Performances, Videos on September 14th, 2011 by Hyphen

The homies at Fortune Sound Club in Vancouver, BC wanted to make sure our Seattle readers know that MPC wizard and all around dope beatsmith AraabMuzik will be performing on Thursday, September 22nd.  If you’re in the area or can make the trip, it should be a dope show.  Here’s one of my favorite tracks off his newly released instrumental album, Electronic Dream.

Daniel Sturridge’s audacious backheel vs. Sunderland (video)

Posted in Sports, Videos on September 13th, 2011 by Hyphen

I can’t believe he even attempted this, let alone that it went in.  You’ll want to watch until the final replay for a close look at how he pulled it off.

Sound Session #327 (9-11-11)

Posted in Episodes, Sound Session on September 13th, 2011 by Hyphen

Well, well, well.  It’s been a whirlwind few weeks filled with all sorts of music (Bumbershoot!) & sports events (NFL, NCF, EPL, even FIBA), personal travel (ESPN’s campus is awesome, Bristol, Connecticut…not so much), professional business ($$$), and quirky SNSS related matters (thanks y’all), so I apologize for the lack of contact.  We were off air last weekend for some specialty KUBE programming, only to return this week and find that our recording device wasn’t working properly.  Yay.

As a result, this week’s archive sounds a bit off here and there because I cobbled it together out of a few listener recordings of the show.  It starts at song five on the tracklisting below, so you missed a few gems, but you’ll be aight.  Huuuuuge shouts and thanks to David and Greg for recording the show as soon as they heard we had a problem with our archive.  SNSS listeners are the best…and that includes you!

Don Cheadle is Captain Planet

Posted in Comedy, Videos on September 10th, 2011 by Hyphen

Not only do you have Don Cheadle as the legendary Captain Planet, but the one and only Brenda Song makes an appearance…AND the homey from college, James Davis (also known as Baracka Flocka Flames), stars as well. Classic.

John West ft. Pusha T – Lovely (video)

Posted in Artists, Music Videos on September 5th, 2011 by Hyphen

Robin Thicke kinda has this lane on lock, but I’m not mad at this track from John West and Pusha T.  If you want a fun game, pretend that all of Pusha’s verses towards a girl are actually dedicated towards coke.  Sometimes they fit a little too well…

ActuaLOL @ the Nuvo product placement though.

Why does summer have to end?!  Why can’t life always be this easy?!  And when am I gonna be invited to a pool party with Maxine Ashley?

Macklemore & Ryan Lewis ft. Fences – Otherside (Remix) (video)

Posted in Artists, Music Videos on September 1st, 2011 by Hyphen

Wow.

Yet another immaculately conceived and executed video from Mack and Ryan, this time co-directed with their “My Oh My” collaborator, Jason Koenig.  We’re still witnessing Mack’s rise to stardom, but when it’s all said and done, I think “Otherside” will be his defining track.  I don’t know if it will be his best (though it’s hard to beat such a heartfelt, no holds barred view into his battles with addiction), but the combination of the song’s impact/resonance with his fans and what it must have meant to him to record it make it the most notable track in his catalog…so far.

Don’t miss his performance opening for Wiz Khalifa at Bumbershoot this weekend, aka the next stepping stone in his path to stardom.
