The Audacity of Dope

It’s almost crazy to think that B.o.B hasn’t even dropped an official album yet. Fortunately that day is just a few months away, and until then we have this to hold us over. Alongside DJ Drama & DJ Sense he gives us the May25th mixtape. With guest appearances by J. Cole, fellow ’09 classmate Asher Roth, and more as well as production by Alchemist and Kanye this tape is sure to get a few plays on your iTunes.

The homies Krispy and Al have been hinting about this little release for quite some time and they finally dropped it via Twitter the other day.  As I was waiting for some artwork to show up, Shake @ 2DopeBoyz cooked up the cover above, so it’s time to rock.  There are only 5 joints, but they’re all dope.  The title track is probably the highlight, but don’t sleep on “Fruits” and “Floozy” either.  More dope ish from the Knux!

The homies Cee & Bekah traveled all the way from Australia to link up with Mick Boogie & Terry Urban and drop the latest edition of their Soul Movement mixtape series.  This one picks up right where Vol. 2 left off with an ill mix of dope rhymes and ill melodies.  Great beat selection too.  Cop this with the quickness and if you’ve been sleeping, you can actually download all 3 volumes off the Bandcamp link below.

I know I’m a little late on this, especially since I’ve been bumping the tape non-stop ever since OU sent it out, but better late than never.  Outasight is one of my favorite artists these days and this project shows exactly why.  He’s a dope MC, vocalist, and is forward thinking with his art.  Plus he’s just a cool dude.  Download this immediately:

Congrats to Outasight for recently signing to Asylum/Warner Bros. Records as well.  I hear the head of WBR is personally really excited about the signing, so it looks like they might actually give him the push he deserves in 2010…

The homies Macklemore and Ryan Lewis are not only two of my favorite artists from the town, but they are also two of my favorite people in the Seattle music scene.  They’re just really cool dudes who love making art and take it pride in everything they do.  When you mix in their incredible talent on top of that (need proof?), it’s mandatory to check for everything they’re involved in.

Here’s their long awaited collaboration, The Vs. EP, where they sampled some contemporary bands and combined rock with hip-hop.  Don’t get it twisted though, this isn’t some half-assed, corny mash up project.  Instead, it’s an excellent piece of work where Ryan’s lush soundscapes are complimented perfectly by Mack’s heartfelt and sobering (quite literally) rhymes.  I can’t recommend this highly enough.

Here’s a mixtape from Michigan-native Mike Posner that came out a few weeks ago, but I felt it was worth posting just in case people missed it. There’s definitely a handful of noteworthy records on this project. Check out “Speed of Sound” and “You Don’t Have To Leave,” plus there is an eerie rendition of John Mayer’s “I Don’t Trust Myself.”

Posner is an emerging song-writer/singer to look out for as he recently signed a deal with Jive Records.

The homey Cook, or as I know him, Will from Pomona (5-C’s represent, represent), just dropped off this fresh beat tape, mixed by DJ Seano.  Every time I hear Cook’s beats, I’m more and more impressed.  There are so many ill layers to these…it’s just up to the right artists to sprinkle the right spices and make some classic dishes.

This ain’t your mama’s crusty old beat tape! These are The Original Recipes – a collection of Cook Classics beats from the last few years. We managed to plug about 40 beats into a twenty minute set by the incredible DJ Seano. The tape starts with hip hop, but by the end you’ll be dancing like a teeny-bopper to some serious pop and uptempo production. To all the beat-jacking loop builders out there, we kindly introduce the funky chicken and our favorite lazer sounds to make your life just a little more difficult. Remember, this is only a small selection of hundreds of Cook beats, so if you want to work, hit me up! It’s time to cook, biatch!
