Thaaaaaat’s a touchy subject

(LOL @ the look at 0:49)

It’s not even really funny because of the logical age/Viagra connection, but instead, it’s hilarious to watch “the Straight Talk Express” constantly veer off the tracks.  It’s been an awful week for McCain, and this little incident aboard his bus didn’t help matters.  If heath insurance companies are covering Viagra, it’s most certainly wrong that they won’t cover birth control.  Too bad he voted against that.  Of all the issues to get stumped on, you could not have picked a more awkward topic for McLame.

Nas – Sly Fox (unofficial video)

Posted in Artists, Music Videos, Politics on July 9th, 2008 by Hyphen

Here’s a dope fan video for Nas’ “Sly Fox” track off Untitled created by Ego from Soundcircuit.  With the recent news that Rik Cordero and Nasir are working on an official video (complete with Jay Smooth and Miss Info cameos!), I hope the real one takes this idea even further.  Fox News is a complete joke, and I could really write a book on all the things wrong with that network.  Suffice it to say, as a media studies major, they represent everything wrong with mass media in this country to me.  At their best, they’re poor journalists.  At their worst, they’re racist criminals.  ARE THEY HERE?  EFF EM.

Nas ft. Keri Hilson – Hero (video)

Posted in Artists, Music Videos, Politics on July 7th, 2008 by Hyphen

So dope.  Thoughts:

  • I approve of any muay thai reference.
  • Ironic, I also walk around the city with someone playing a bass drum behind me.
  • I heart Keri Hilson.
  • This might be the dopest single this year in terms of straight lyrics.
  • That third verse is one of my favorite verses of the year.
  • When it’s all said and done, Nas could very well be the G.O.A.T..
  • Cop Nas’ album on the 15th!

Kanye West doesn’t care about wack people

This is why Barack doesn’t take any money from PAC’s or lobbyists.  Rather than be accountable to big business, he’ll be accountable to us.  Vote.

Unite For Change!

Posted in News, Politics on June 28th, 2008 by Hyphen

Yesterday, Barack and Hillary finally made their first campaign appearance together to help unite the party.  In the aptly named town of Unity, New Hampshire, they talked about the importance of coming together to make sure that Barack gets in the White House.  This election is simply too important to let any petty differences get between us.  It’s good to see that Clinton’s supporters are rallying behind Obama, and with everyone on the same page, we’re going to dominate come November.

Today is the day for those “Unite For Change” house parties I told y’all about last week.  Hopefully you’re attending one in your area (last minute Seattle people can email me to find one ASAP), but if not, you can still get involved.  We have about 4 months left and every little bit you can do helps immensely.  Even if that’s just talking to your friends and family to make sure everyone is informed and registered to vote, that’s great.  Let’s do this.

Barack on Rolling Stone (again)

Posted in Politics on June 27th, 2008 by Hyphen

Barack

Chyea, you know how we do.

The media studies major in me instantly noticed that they have him smiling at his much talked about flag pin.  I’m sure the haters will (incorrectly) try to twist that into some sort of “he’s LOL’ing at America!!!!” criticism, but I think it represents something else.  Even though he “gave in” and donned the pin, he’s smiling at how silly politics are in our country.  The fact that whether or not you wear a pin dominates headlines for months, while America turns into the Titanic says a whole lot about our society.  If we continue to concern ourselves with trivial ish, we’re gonna sink.  It’s time to educate ourselves, study the issues, and vote for the candidate we believe in.  Aight?

Keith From Up Da Block – Barack Da Vote (video)

Posted in Politics, Samples, Videos on June 26th, 2008 by Hyphen

Yo. This is the illest thing I’ve seen all week! This dude combined Barack, Breakin’, and “Din Daa Daa.” It simply does not get better.

If you’re not familiar with one of the greatest songs of all time, peep it:

George Kranz – “Din Daa Daa”

It’s been sampled by the Roots, Wyclef, Ying Yang Twins, and more.

Shout to my man Gedi for sending this over.

Alpha – Obama ’08 (Do The Knowledge)

Posted in Artists, Joints, Politics on June 20th, 2008 by Hyphen

Alpha

Wow.  This one is a no-brainer for me.

When I’m out campaigning for Barack, the biggest negative thing anyone mentions to me is that they don’t know much about him.  Sure, I’ve run into a few “he’s a secret muslim!” people…but that’s pretty much codewords for “I’m racist.”  Screw these people.  Besides, isn’t like half the world Muslim?  And why is that a bad thing to begin with?  What an awful state we’re in when you have to defend yourself from an “attack” that isn’t remotely bad at all.  Sigh.

Anyway, let me stop ranting.  For those who aren’t familiar with Obama’s background, you can check out this new joint from Indianapolis’ Alpha and get familiar with the basics of his past.  All the while, Alpha rips it over a dope Willie Hutch sample.  This is my jam right now. Time to spread it around the Obama office here in Seattle…
