You know when you see an interview (perhaps ours) with Pharrell and he’s very stoic and reserved? Well when the cameras are off, this is generally the result. Someone in his crew just caught it on camera at a McDonald’s in Paris. Dude is hilarious.
Sure, a full blown SXSW ’09 recap would be nice, but I’m sure there will be footage of every single performance all over the net soon, if not already. Truthfully, there are no words that can describe what a crazy and fun networking experience the conference provided, but I hope you were following along with the Twitter feed the last few days. I’m sure I’ll share a few stories on tonight’s Sound Session and throughout the week, but if you’ll excuse me…I need to board this plane and get ready for an insanely busy week of catching up on work. Shout to everyone I met in Austin. As Diddy would say, “LET’S WORK!!!!!!!!!”

So, most of you probably know that I’m down in Austin at SXSW this week and that’s why the updates on TAOD have been on hiatus. In short, this experience is absolutely crazy and it’s only been 2 days so far. I’m about to hit up the Nah Right/Smoking Section showcase, but before I do, I thought I’d drop a quick note and say peace to the faithful TAOD readers. Also, if you’re interested in all the shenanigans, debauchery, and/or tomfoolery that’s happening down here, follow me on Twitter and stay in the loop – www.twitter.com/djhyphen
This is what happens when nobody else is in the studio on SNSS and I’m bored as hell. Plus, I needed a short video to practice editing with iMovie on the new MacBook Pro I recently added to the arsenal. I’ll post up last night’s Sound Session later today, but as you can see, I was busy completely wasting my time.
And yeah, I need to get a little lower on the handstand push ups. Freestanding would be nice too, but I’m not at that Jackie Chan Andrew Bueno level yet. What up Dru!
Anyone know how to maintain the highest level of quality for Flip Cam movies edited through iMovie? I converted the .avi to .mov through Quicktime so it would open in iMovie, then exported in what I thought was decent quality, but it looks pretty fuzzy. Or should I man up and just edit the .avi’s directly in Final Cut Pro? I need to get this U-N-I interview put together and posted up asap…
As I sit here in disbelief watching this standoff between the LAPD and some dude who looks an awful like DJ Khaled driving a Bentley, I’m pretty shocked. Granted, Khaled is the punchline of every hip-hop head’s jokes, but this obviously isn’t something you’d wish on anyone. Wow.
In a completely unrelated matter, here’s the new video for Asher’s uber-smash-in-the-making, “I Love College.” I heard this on the rock station here in Seattle when I was getting a haircut earlier tonight and the buzz is really starting to take off. I give it one more month before it’s a certified hit and Asher’s a star. And for the record, I like this song…plus dude is dope. He’s working with a lot of talented people on his album too, so I think it should eliminate a lot of the Em-parisons.
Now…Khaled…get out of the car and end this peacefully….please.
Bale’s rant is so classic and even though that Kermit video of Johnny Cash’s version of “Hurt” is hella old, I just saw it for the first time a few days ago. Saddest song ever + Kermit = awkwardness.
This is pretty self-explanatory, but I’ll try to sum it up for you. One of the dopest MC’s around, the big homey Braille, has linked up with one of the dopest producers, S1 (of Strange Fruit Project fame), to create a project called CloudNineteen. Along with making an incredible record, there’s a larger purpose with the album. I’ll let Braille explain:
In my last Newsletter, I shared details about my vision for this record. It was really hard for me to share the vision at first because I feared that people wouldn’t understand. At this point, I feel very comfortable with the vision and I am confident that this is what I’m supposed to do. Starting February 25th, me and S1 will begin traveling around the U.S. with the intent of giving out as many CD’s as we can press. My hope is to press 30,000 copies and in order to meet that goal I am accepting donations and financial contributions to help with the manufacturing cost. None of the donated money is going in my pockets, and with a total goal of raising $20,000 – every 70 cents we raise represents a CD being given away to someone. Rather then continuing to type out the vision, I filmed myself on DJ Idull’s computer so that I could verbalize the vision in a video.
If your interested in contributing to the cause then my PayPal is braillehiphop@hotmail.com. If you’d rather send a check in the mail then just email me and I will hit you with my address.
It’s crucial to mention that these 30K CD’s that will be given away will almost all go to at-risk and incarcerated youths across America. The same kids who see all the negative images that are most visable in hip-hop will be directly touched by positive, genuine, and dope music from their culture.
If you’ve read my blog over the past year, you already know that with all the problems in the world, America, and hip-hop, I think the solutions lie in education. We have to teach the next generation how to act and right now, hip-hop just isn’t pulling its weight. Huge shout to everyone who is doing something positive with their music and careers right now, Braille and S1 especially.
I just wrote Braille a check for $100 to help support the project and I hope you’ll join me in getting CloudNineteen out to as many kids as possible. Like he mentioned, every 70 cents he raises represents giving one CD to a kid locked in juvenile detention or in a tough neighborhood. Instead of going out to dinner and a movie one night, shoot Braille some $$ and help out.

To be perfectly honest, I love my new job. If I haven’t told you about it personally, basically, I work with music videos and getting them placed in all sorts of retail, hospitality, and online locations. In other words, I spend all day watching videos and talking to labels and artists across all genres. I got this note last week and being a fan of Jackass, I definitely got a big kick out of this.
Sidenote, if you have a music video, holler at me to make sure we have it for potential programming…
