1-877-DUNKD-ON, Pt. 3

Posted in Sports, Videos on August 4th, 2008 by Hyphen

Yessss.  I was worried we wouldn’t see any more of these since some oversensitive people complained about Nike’s Hyperdunk Recovery Center ads.  Perhaps the print versions will stay pulled, but the videos will continue to leak.  Fine by me.  Following in the tradition of Devante and Terry, Todd tells his story about how he ended up in rehab.

I decided last time to post one of my favorite dunks everytime a new ad drops, and the description of this posterization reminded me of when Hakim Warrick demonstrated what happens when you transfer away from my Arizona Wildcats.  Actually, after watching Dennis Latimore play at Notre Dame, we probably didn’t want him anyway:

Pull Up Bar

For time.  Complete all reps of each exercise before moving to the next.

100 pull ups
100 push ups
100 sit ups
100 air squats

Last time was 21:33, so my goal for tonight was sub 20.  Made it by 6 seconds, 19:54.  Next time, I’ll aim for 19.  Shout to my Foundation Crossfit people!

1-877-DUNKD-ON, Pt. 2

Second edition of Nike’s new Hyperdunk Recovery Center ads.  First it was Devante, now it’s Terry.  If this is going to be a running series, I might as well start featuring some of my favorite posters then:

EPMD on the basketball court from waaay back

Posted in Sports, Videos on July 16th, 2008 by Hyphen

Another ill throwback video from The Meaning of Dope, this one featuring Erick & Parish showing off a few of their trademarked moves on the court.  I always think it’s hilarious how so many hip-hop related people, who clearly are horrible players, think they can ball.  Sure, there are a handful of MC’s who can (or could) play (Game, Mase, Cam, Lil’ Romeo, even Will Smith was all-city apparently), but most rappers wanted to be athletes growing up.  It’s the same thing in reverse too; athletes want to be entertainers.  By no means am I a baller, but I played small college and can hold my own.  When I jokingly talk smack with artists and then get on the court only to see something like the above?  Awww man.  I just feel bad.

Foundation Crossfit on Sound Session

Posted in Sound Session, Sports, Videos on July 15th, 2008 by Hyphen

My good friends Dru and John from Foundation Crossfit stopped by Sound Session on Sunday to talk a little bit about working out. They explained exactly what crossfit is, what they do at their gym in North Seattle, how you can get down with some free workouts, and more. Make sure you come to the gym for the free “Rainstorm” workouts every weekend. It’s the best workout in Seattle, hands down. Whether you’re in shape or not, you can always get healthier! I’m there every week, and the people are super cool & friendly, so come check it out. Aight?

For more information, peep their website – http://www.foundationcrossfit.com

DISCLAIMER: That Bud Light didn’t belong to the workout warriors. That was Stretch’s from The Parker Brothaz, one of the best hip-hop groups in the NW, who were also on the show. You can hear more of them (and understand why we were joking about Yung Joc) by downloading the full show.

Pull Up Bar

(i hate you.)

For time.  Complete all reps of each exercise before moving to the next.

100 pull ups
100 push ups
100 sit ups
100 air squats

Finished in 21:33, which is 5 minutes better than my last time.  Bladow.  I’ll aim for the 20 minute mark next time.  Try this one, it doesn’t get much simpler!  Shout to Foundation CF.

Rainstorm XVII

Rainstorm XVII

(yeah, that’s me in the way back…lookin’ like the Kanye bear blasting off)

I’ve been slacking on the CrossFit posts, but the Jedi Gym reminded me.  This weekend we did:

Tabata Squats for a warm up
5 rounds for time:
200m run
15 kettlebell swings
15 burpees

Using 25 lbs, it took me 18:39.  Kinda disappointing, I’ll have to work on my burpee game.  For someone who enjoys doing hella push ups, it’s strange that those slowed me down so much.  Eh well, next time.

Speaking of which, I’ma keep posting crossfit related goodness until at least one of you random Seattle readers comes out to the free workouts on Saturdays @ 11 AM at Foundation Fitness with me.  It’s on Lake City WY and 100th, so it’s pretty easy to find for North Seattle folk.  You don’t even have to be in shape, you just have to enjoy getting some exercise.  Plus, it’s fun and healthy.  What could be better? Hit me up for details, or you can check it out for yourself at the Foundation site.

The only thing better than a CrossFit workout

“Geeks are cool now…this is our time”

I agree completely.  Dru, when are we going to incorporate “kill pose” at the gym?

Bastian Schweinsteiger of Germany was giving his post game interview after losing in the Euro 2008 final, only to be interupted by the Spanish players celebrating.  Ouch.  It’s a celebration bitches Bastian!

Soccer + Basketball = Nirvana

Posted in Sports, Videos on July 4th, 2008 by Hyphen

Doesn’t get much better than that.  Steve Nash recently held some charity events in NYC, one of which was “The Showdown in Chinatown,” a pick up game of footy involving some of the biggest stars in basketball and soccer: Baron Davis, Jozy Altidore, Thierry Henry (a future Sounder?),  Salomon Kalou, Claudio Reyna, and more.  The stop motion photography gives this video a great artistic touch.

Damn, now I really want to go play soccer…but instead I’m off to register voters at various 4th of July festivities.  Have a good 4th y’all!
