I don’t think anyone is on the same level as Kanye these days – musically, artistically, personally, etc.. There are a lot of different interpretations that you could pull from this short film, but I’d be interested in hearing your take. Keep in mind, this was filmed before the MTV VMA incident and his decision to step out of the spotlight a bit. What do you think?
Sidenote: peep the Mayer Hawthorne track playing during the “love” scene. A-Side FTW!
If for some ungodly reason you don’t…peep this dope piece put together by the Ruby Hornet team for a nice recap. Shout to the homies Buff, KT, and the whole Athletic Mic League. They’re one of my favorite crews of all time and it’s great to see all the success that Drew/Haircut/Mayer is having these days. Great music from great people!
Look at the homey D. Black getting some love on our local NBC affiliate here in Seattle. That’s big. Congrats to D and the whole Sportn’ Life family. Cop Ali’Yah if you haven’t already!
RTC at Ruby Hornet grabbed some great footage of 2009’s breakthrough artist, Mayer Hawthorne, performing live at the Dark Room. Peep part of “Just Ain’t Gonna Work Out” above, then a little reggae flip of the single below.
Head on over to Ruby Hornet for more clips and be sure to catch this tour when it hits your town!
Pretty self explanatory…the homies Tunji, Kam Moye, Jern Eye, and Evangillest rocking rhymes over live production from Keelay and Cook. Shout to GregTheDude on the visuals!
I remember seeing BK-One mix for Brother Ali damn near a decade ago and I was blown away by how well he complimented Ali’s live show, especially during his solo. Now he’s prepping the release of his first album and SNSS listeners will know that we’ve been rocking “Here I Am” with Phonte, Ali, and The Grouch real heavy lately. You need to cop BK’s album on the 6th…[Clinton Sparks] get familiar! [/Clinton]
Shout to the homies Peter and Zeke for sending this through.

Wow. This is easily the coolest pool table I’ve ever seen. It’s a far cry from the one the homies and I used to rack every weekend at my friend Greg’s house. Ah…the memories.

Fast forward to 3:13 to see the build up for a truly incredible goal from the big homey Didier Drogba. Everything about it – Ashley Cole’s long ball, Didier’s first touch, his strength and balance, and perhaps a lucky bounce after Corluka’s tackle – combined to make this a flawless moment from yesterday’s 3-0 win by Chelsea over Tottenham. The Blues are not only looking like the team to beat in the EPL, but they could quite easily be the best in the world.
The scary thing is that Spurs actually played pretty well…and still got hammered. Despite the lopsided scoreline, it was a great match to watch. Top notch football at its best.
Sidenote, your boy has been playing well recently too. Dropped in 2 goals and 2 assists in a game yesterday FTW…

Sure, it’s lost some of its luster after Fed was upset in the finals, but this shot from over the weekend was still absolutely incredible. Great stuff.
Anyone who follows TAOD knows that last week marked Seattle’s annual music & arts festival, Bumbershoot. J. Moore and I have hosted the main stage hip-hop show for the past few years, but this time around, I had the special pleasure of not only being on the “Bumberboard” that helped plan the entire event, but I even got to perform by DJ’ing for the homies U-N-I.
Thurzday and Y-O took to the Fisher Green Stage (alongside artists like Mayer Hawthorne, Janelle Monae, De La Soul, and more) to rock in front of an enthusiastic crowd. We ran through a high energy set including tracks like “Cali Soul,” “Beautiful Day,” “Land Of The Kings,” “Supreme,” “K.R.E.A.M.,” “Hollywood Hiatus,” and more. Aside from the classicness that occurs at 1:29, the highlight has to be “Supreme.” The kids were wylin’ out to that one and both Y-O and Thurz got some crowd surfing in.
I had a really good time all weekend, so big shouts to everyone involved: One Reel, the artists, KUBE, the homies, the new folks I met, and [Jay-Z] most importantly, you, the customer [/Hov!]. If I have time, I’ll be posting up some more footage of various Bumbershoot performances here on TAOD. Stay tuned.
