Spot. On.
Any clowning of the FCC always gets my blessing.
(watch in HD on HyphenTV here)
As I mentioned in the show recap, we had the longtime Inverse homies, Tunji and Toby, come through Sound Session this past week. You can peep that post for the audio of the entire interview, but I’ll be posting the video for it soon. In the meantime, here’s a clip of the end of the interview, where Tunj spit a (real) freestyle to help close out the show.
Download Inverse’s So True EP right here if you haven’t already. Oh, and you should probably remember the name too. 2009 is gonna be a big year y’all.
Hmm…not sure how I feel about this. On one hand, Lykke Li is the ish and I love this chick. On the other hand, I hate the whole “haha let’s have white people do something hip-hop and let’s all laugh” schtick. I mean, we’ve seen her do covers of A Tribe Called Quest before, and those were dope, but I don’t think I needed to see her and Bjorn from Peter, Bjorn, and John remake Ricky Rawwwwwwss. Yeah…I’m good (I’m gone).
Seattle people: Lykke will be back in town at the Showbox in February. I’ll see y’all there.

Tunji and GregTheDude linked up with one of my favorite groups out right now, the Knux, down at USC for this OkayplayerTV piece. In case you’re sleeping, you need to peep the Knux’s Remind Me In 3 Days album…one of the illest projects of last year.
More true words from Jay Smooth. Like I said in my last post, we have to “be the change” we want to see. That means we have to get to work and take pride in what everything do.
I’m making 2009 a huge year for myself and I hope y’all do the same. Live better in every aspect of your life and get things moving in the right direction. Do your best to really experience life. Remember what Jimmy V said?
To me, there are three things we all should do every day. We should do this every day of our lives. Number one is laugh. You should laugh every day. Number two is think. You should spend some time in thought. And Number three is, you should have your emotions moved to tears, could be happiness or joy. But think about it. If you laugh, you think, and you cry, that’s a full day. That’s a heck of a day. You do that seven days a week, you’re going to have something special.
Y-O, Thurz, and Cook Classics appear to be cooking up a little something sampling one of the greatest songs of all time, Gregory Isaacs’ “Night Nurse,” for the upcoming VIMBY mixtape. I remember Thurz singing this randomly last time U-N-I was up here and I commented on how much I love that track. I had no idea they were working on a remake of sorts. I can’t wait to hear the final version.
And in case you’re sleeping, vibe out to the original. Flawless…
GregTheDude and Tunji took OkayplayerTV around Los Angeles to link up with Thes-One and Double K, better known as the People Under The Stairs. The duo talked about how they originally linked up, their recording history, their new Fun DMC album, and their video for “The Wiz.” That clip is one of my favorites from this past year, though I never would have guessed that the weather was awful when they shot it in Australia. It always looked like the perfect summer joint to me:
Sidenote: it’s not smart to watch a video like that on a day when we’re snowed in here in Seattle. Even if it was freezing down there, it makes me miss summer like craaaazy.
(why are EPL highlights so hard to find online? seriously.)
If you didn’t learn the first time, just look at RvP’s finish in yesterday’s match vs. Liverpool. Wow. The chest control was brilliant, the one touch completely fooled Carragher, and then the finish with his ‘weaker’ right foot was still a rocket. Bergkamp woulda been proud. Lastly, he tops it off by brushing off his shoulder? Aww man, phenomenal swag from RvP.
Before anyone says anything, yes, Keane’s finish was excellent too, and yes, it was still a draw that continues to reduce Arsenal’s title hopes. Since I enjoy watching all the ‘Big 4’ play, I just want it to be a tight race and the draw keeps it close enough heading in to the new year. LOL @ Howard Webb sending off Adebeyor for two normal fouls, meanwhile Lucas racked up about 11 fouls before getting his first booking though. GTFOH.
I’m shocked that Liverpool couldn’t get a goal against a 10 man Arsenal team that lost Fabregas at the half. If you’re going to be the champions, shouldn’t you take all 3 points there?
As I showed y’all yesterday, we’re snowed in here in Seattle and as a matter of fact, it’s even worse than it was during that video. I think we’re up to about half a foot of packed snow on the ground, with no signs of it letting up for the next few days. It’s really cool looking outside and fun to walk around in, but the downside is that I’ve been stuck around my house for 4 days straight now. Wait…that’s probably not such a bad thing…I have good food, a warm place, football (and futbol!) on TV, and I’ve been able to finish up a ton of work. I take it back, this snow thing is kinda dope.
Well, aside from the fact that I haven’t done any Christmas shopping yet and I’m suppose to be moving in 10 days. If I have to move my couch on ice skates, I’ma be very, very upset.
Anyway, in the meantime, I’ve been getting some old projects finished. Here’s some simple Flip Cam footage I grabbed of the homies Black Milk and Elzhi performing at the Red Bull Big Tune stop here in Seattle on 9/12/08. If you recall, we recorded a dope interview with them the day before, which you can still check out right here.
At the show, they ran through some of their illest songs, including “Sound The Alarm,” “Motown 25,” “Hiding Place,” “1, 2,” and more. If you’ve never seen Milk and El rock live, you’re missing out.
