This Sunday, we finally bid farewell to Andy Rooney, one of America’s most iconic curmudgeons. A man who has never not looked 92, and who seems to have a bone to pick with everything, probably even bones. A man who stayed on TV so long that he got too old for 60 Minutes. What better way to say goodbye than with this glorious mash-up of his most nonsensical non-sequiturs. Goodnight, sweet rambling, out-of-touch, terrifyingly eyebrowed prince.
Reminds me of this Twitter account I just started following…
GSP teaches some tricks to the Princeton Tiger and UCONN Husky at ESPN HQ. I love that this is my company.
Landon Donovan takes on (Bellevue’s own) Tim Lincecum above and (Richland’s own) Hope Solo takes on (British Columbia’s own) Steve Nash in these hilarious ads for the new FIFA Soccer game from EA Sports. Kind of a NW feel to these ads, eh? I guess that’s to be expected with EA’s FIFA headquarters in Burnaby and soccer being more popular in the Pacific Northwest than pretty much every other area of North America.
Nash’s dry sense of humo(u)r is awesome. “That’s a low blow…I worked hard for that degree.” That dude is the man.
In fact, when FIFA drops on Tuesday, I’m kind of tempted to cop a system just to play it whenever I can’t get on the pitch in real life. Looks crazy!
The homies at Fortune Sound Club in Vancouver, BC wanted to make sure our Seattle readers know that MPC wizard and all around dope beatsmith AraabMuzik will be performing on Thursday, September 22nd. If you’re in the area or can make the trip, it should be a dope show. Here’s one of my favorite tracks off his newly released instrumental album, Electronic Dream.
I can’t believe he even attempted this, let alone that it went in. You’ll want to watch until the final replay for a close look at how he pulled it off.
Not only do you have Don Cheadle as the legendary Captain Planet, but the one and only Brenda Song makes an appearance…AND the homey from college, James Davis (also known as Baracka Flocka Flames), stars as well. Classic.
Seeing footage like this from the promotional campaign for Frank is bittersweet. While the challenges she faced a few years later undoubtedly contributed to the classic nature of Back To Black (her pain was our gain), it’s interesting to think what could have been if she never got too deep in to depression and drugs. Frank is a more upbeat record — emotionally, not necessarily tempo-wise — though “I Heard Love Is Blind” is one of the more caustic songs on the album. If the lyrics truly depict a situation she went through with her boyfriend at the time, I can’t imagine hearing anything more gut-wrenching coming from your lady.
We shouldn’t be surprised though, she was handing out ether left and right on that record. Sorry ladies, but she got at a TON of y’all with this one:
RIP Amy.
A few weeks ago, Shad performed at the Capitol Hill Block Party here in Seattle and his super talented DJ, T-Lo, sadly wasn’t able to make the trip. I was honored to step behind the tables and help keep the show moving in his absence, though I don’t think I’ll ever get used to being on stage. Just not for me.
Shad, on the other hand, is a natural. Above is a quick clip of him performing “Compromise,” a great record off his classic The Old Prince album. If you missed the official video for the track, peep it here.
My Swedish brethren Seb Larsson marked his Sunderland debut with a brilliant equalizer in today’s match versus Liverpool. Not a bad way to kick off the new EPL season! Lucky number 7…
