The Audacity of Dope

After touring with THEESatisfaction across Europe for the last 3 weeks, J. Moore made his triumphant return on this week’s SNSS.  He also brought with him one of our favorite producers and all around cool dude, 14KT.  Those of you in the know will remember KT from his Athletic Mic League days (the same crew that spawned Buff1 and Mayer Hawthorne), but if you can’t recall those days, perhaps you would recognize him as the reigning Red Bull Big Tune beat battle champion.  If you aren’t familiar, please drop what you’re doing and check out his beats, starting with his newest project, A Friendly Game Of KT.  Without exaggeration, one of the illest producers in the game…hands down.

While KT co-hosted the show with us, we also aired our recent interview with Slaughterhouse…errr, 3/4th’s of the crew at least.  Joey was on the injured list with a tooth issue (hey…tour life is no joke), but Crooked I, Royce Da 5’9″, and Joell Ortiz came through to talk about their upcoming Welcome To Our House album, touring, their webisode series, and more.  I’m hoping to post up the video of the interview shortly, but for now, enjoy the audio…and the rest of the show!

Possibly the most underrated producer in the game, 14KT, combines one of his amazing productions with handshot footage of family moments from 2011.  The result is a beautiful look into life and love. RIP to his pops.

I mean…look at all the homies involved.  It’s so dope to be able to call these folks friends and I couldn’t be prouder of what J. Moore and the fellas have built with the Big Tune series. Shout to the homey Budo on a huge win, but also congrats to KT for being an alien with beats human beings are not worthy of rapping over. If you aren’t up on 14KT, you’re missing out on one of the illest producers in the game.  He’s been putting it down for years with the Lab Technicians and Athletic Mic League, and recently as part of THE most underrated collective of artists around, A-Side Worldwide (Buff1, Now On, Mayer Hawthorne, etc.).  Thankfully, he’s giving you another chance to get familiar with his new project, Nowalataz.

Moore, along with the big homies Vitamin D, Jake One, Marcus Lalario, and DV-One.  Saturday night, the 11th, you can watch an excellent special on this past year’s competitions on BET at 7:30 EST/PST.  Don’t miss it, for real.  206 stand up.

New dopeness from Michigan MC and Athletic Mic League affiliate, Octane, off his Forgotten Chosen album with Illite.  The hook is slightly generic and reminiscent of Thugnificent, but the verses are mean.  Plus, the homey 14KT* is on the beat, so you already know.

*Special shout to KT for hanging out with me when Shwayze was getting drinks thrown at him on stage at the Red Bull Moon Tower event at SXSW.  Easily one of the hilarious highlights of the week:

I’ve been meaning to make this post for a minute, but now that 14KT‘s album, The Golden Hour, is officially out in stores, it’s time.  I’ve been listening to dude since the early days of the Athletic Mic League and for as long as I can remember, he’s been dope on the mic and on the boards.  With The Golden Hour, KT flexes the skills he demonstrated winning the Detroit stop of the Red Bull Big Tune beat battle earlier this year.  This is some of the smoothest production I’ve heard all year, but don’t take my word for it…peep some of the tracks A-Side Worldwide has been kind enough to leak:
