Of all the performances I saw at SXSW, Asher’s show was the only one that really made a lasting impression. After being through the ringer within this industry, he has regrouped and prepped an amazing follow up to his debut album. “Tangerine Girl” is the first offering we’ve heard from RetroHash and if you weren’t lucky enough to catch him doing the new records live in Austin, trust me, you’re gonna want to watch out for this one.
Just a quickstrike for those who thought Ash couldn’t rap. People stay getting it twisted with dude, but he’s rawwwwww.
While I don’t think this single is necessarily one of Asher’s stronger lyrical performances recently, I wonder if there are people out there that still don’t realize he can really rhyme. If so, you must not have peeped the EP with Notttz, nor some of the random leaks from the past year. I’m looking forward to Asher’s sophomore album solidifying his place in the game and erasing any thoughts that it was solely about “I Love College.”
This record will appear on both Nottz’ You Need This Music album and his collaborative project with Asher, Rawth, that drops in a few months. I just finished listening to Nottz’ LP and it’s crazy. Dude kills it on the mic and boards for the entire thing. Cop that.
Mitch: Back in April we found out by a tweet from Lupe that himself, along with a few other notable emcees, would join forces to create the All City Chess Club, the first “Super Group” since Wu-Tang that has people really talking. Well here we have the first official drop from the group minus/plus a few members. Indulge…
I wish more artists actually took a little bit of pride and social responsibility in their music like Asher has done with his newest single. It’s dope to see artists mirror their personal growth in their art, but it’s rare. No second childhood syndrome here, straight #motivationalmusic
Let’s see…you have a) Asher spitting over the classic Pace Won “I Declare War” beat, b) BBGUN on the directorial tip, and c) a random topless girl halfway through the video. Yep, I approve.
Smoke DZA recruits fellow Marley Smokers Devin The Dude, Curren$y, Asher Roth & hookman June Summers for his Smokers anthem “Marley & Me†produced by Scoop Deville. Directed by Creative Control. – OnSMASH
For my first official post with some actual material I bring you the official video for the remix to Smoke DZAs single off his Substance Abuse mixtape, Marley & Me featuring a few friends.
Editor’s note: If you’re gonna get lifted, be responsible folks. That was your PSA of the day. – Non-smoker Hyph
Asher returns with another perfect college single, just in time for the back to school rush. They’ve actually been pushing this track for a minute and I’m a bit surprised it hasn’t caught on little more honestly. The beat is cool, the content is radio friendly (read: Becky from the suburbs likes to sing it in her new Jetta), the hook is catchy, Asher’s verses are cool, and the crowd at our Summer Jam responded well to it (interview still coming soon). Oh…and Keri Hilson is fiiiiiiiiiine (in real life too).
We’ll see if the visuals help turn the song into a hit…but in the meantime, this song will always remind me of one of Dane Cook’s few funny moments:
