SNSS

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays from the Sound Session team!  There’s about 15 minutes left on Christmas Day as I write this and after a few weeks of traveling (special shout to some of my good LA friends that I saw last week, Enrique and Brian from Interscope), then the craziness of the holidays, I’m finally feeling like I can relax and catch up on things.  Hopefully you all had a great holiday and got to spend time with your friends and family, and you’re not working like I am.

That said, when we’re hanging out and playing new music from the likes of B.o.B, Kendrick, Jay, Emilio Rojas, The Physics, Disclosure, Rochelle Jordan, Oddisee, World’s Fair, Nemo Achida, Drake, Flume, and more, it really doesn’t seem like “work.”  Enjoy the latest episode of SNSS and be sure to tune in for our Best of 2013 show next week!

Sound Session #420 (6-30-13)

SNSS

I spent last week in Los Angeles and just like I say after every trip there, half of the city is awesome and half is horrible.  I’ll spare you the lowlights, but on the positive tip, shout to all the folks I spent time with: at ESPN’s LA office, at the Hard Knock TV annual 3 on 3 basketball tournament, and at the BET Awards functions.  Despite losing in the championship game of the hoops tourney, we had a great time and we’re definitely looking forward to the next one.  Along with hoops, the other highlight was definitely a trip to Disneyland.  I hadn’t been in about 20 years since I was a little kid and it really is the happiest place on earth.  Go there, with or without kids.  You’ll have a great time.

As for this week’s SNSS, you already know what it is.  Dope music from folks like Dom Kennedy, Fiend, J. Cole, Kendrick Lamar, Schoolboy Q, Drake, Kanye, Wale, The Bullitts, Mac Miller, Asher Roth, Bas, Lion Babe, Shad, TiRon & Ayomari, and more.  Plus, the young homies, Brothers From Another, joined us in the studio.  Be sure to check out their new Tacos On Broadway EP (features include Sol, Dave B, Thaddeus David, and Asher Roth) right here.  They’re definitely a group to look out for, not just in Seattle, but on a national level.

Enjoy the show!

R.I.P. Michael Jackson

Posted in Artists, Movies, Music Videos on June 25th, 2009 by Hyphen

I was following along on Twitter as the news broke this afternoon, and I’ve had a lot of thoughts the rest of the day about Mike’s passing.  Ultimately, it’s a sad, sad story, but I hope people will remember him by separating the music from the person.  It’s clear that MJ was severely troubled and was probably mentally ill his entire life.  Even with all the craziness, he managed to release timeless music that will always evoke special feelings for all of us.

For this post, I decide to toss up the short film, Captain Eo, that Mike did for Disneyland in 1986.  I remember going to see it with my dad and between the movie, the music, and the 3-D glasses, there was nothing cooler at the time.  I rocked that Eo shirt for so long hahaha.  If you’ve never seen it, there’s no way it will mean as much to you now, but if you do remember seeing it in your youth, you know.

R.I.P. to the most famous person in the entire world.  It’s not often that you say that.  His music will live forever.
