The Audacity of Dope

I love that Drizzy had everyone thinking this was a(n attempt at a) hard, street record and then when the video drops, we see it open with kids playing soccer and extended comedic scenes with his boys.  Even when it gets a little darker at the end, it’s still centered around laughs with his homies.  Be careful with putting the whole team on though, Drizzy.  Go ask Hammer.

Also, this video solidifies Drake as the unequivocal king of unintentionally hilarious video faces.  He’s gotta be in on it at this point, right?

Right in time for the cold weather…aka…cuffing season.  Choose up!

Meek and Drizzy team up for the visuals to the current single off Dreamchasers 2, which is rumored to have been downloaded over 6 million times.  Who knows if that number is close to accurate, but any way you slice it, Meek is winning right now.  He’ll be in Seattle on Wednesday and word is, he’ll be dropping by the studio for an interview.  MMG don’t stop.

Yeah, I know WLotD kinda died a few years ago when I became equal parts too busy and too apathetic to continue to call out idiocy in new songs, but if I happen to be blogging as I hear something dumb, I reserve the right to revive it.  You can thank Pleasure P, he of the legendary wack lyric veteran group, Pretty Ricky.  His new song with Tyga is called “I Like Girlz,” which aside from the always classy and edgy replacement of the letter “s” with a “z,” seems straightforward enough…until you hear the chorus:

“I love girls, I love girls, I love girls // So much, I think I’m lesbiahonest”

While Drake’s original line was pretty funny and somewhat clever, turning it into a hook for your single was a bad move P.  But then again, you named yourself Pleasure P, so I suppose it’s all relative.

I love how Drake’s at the point where he can just release two videos out of the blue with no regard for marketing pushes from his label or anything else to worry about.  It’s similar to Kanye releasing “Theraflu” for no reason right after “Mercy,” just cause he felt that the people needed them both.  So right after “HYFR” comes this more serious, sullen video from Drizzy and a very un-Rihanna looking Robin Fenty.  As far as radio singles go, I’d be hard pressed to think of a record I like more than this one in the past year.

There really are no words at this point. Drake is hilarious, whether it’s intentional or not, and he’s still one of my favorite artists. Greatness.

While we technically kicked off 2012 with last week’s “Best of 2011” wrap up, this really felt like our first SNSS of the new year.  I don’t really have too much to say, other than the music is dope as always, our homies Kooley High called in to the show, and the Drake/Common “beef” has me like this.

I didn’t think I’d like this, but they won me over with a few of the lines (“I’m Wale’s secret Santa” and Drake’s intonation on “liiiIIIIIIFE!”) and a few impressions in particular (Big Sean, Beyonce, J. Cole, Kreayshawn, Birdman, Drake, and Wyclef). J. Cole receiving a basketball as a gift was golden too. Pretty good stuff overall.
