Inverse ft. Deacon The Villain – So True

Posted in Artists, Joints on December 22nd, 2008 by Hyphen

Inverse + Deacon

New dopeness from the homies Tunji and Toby, produced by Decap and featuring the most underrated hook singer in the game, Deacon The Villain from the CunninLynguists.  Actually, seeing as how this song (or at least the demo) was my ringtone about 2 years ago, it’s really that new…but it should be new to y’all and it’s dope as hell, so grab it ASAP:

Inverse ft. Deacon the Villain – “So True”

This will be featured on Inverse‘s upcoming EP, dropping online New Year’s Day with production from Kno (of the CunninLynguists), Decap, M-Phazes, and Cook Classics.  No better way to kick off ’09.

Seattle People: You better come check out Inverse when they make their debut in the 206 at Chop Suey on January 17th.  Be there.

Chester French on OKPtv

Posted in Artists, Live Performances, Other Peoples' Interviews, Videos on November 13th, 2008 by Hyphen

I’ve been trying to tell y’all about Chester French for a minute now, but if you’ve been sleeping, check out their appearance on OKPtv courtesy of GregTheDude and Tunji.  D.A. and Max talk about their background, their sound, and misrepresenting Inverse as “an instrumental hip-hop group” hahahah.  Not exactly, but he’s still learning.  Peep the clip and see why Pharrell signed these dudes immediately after hearing their demo.

Tunji – Still Risin’ (prod. by Kno)

Posted in Artists, Joints on September 9th, 2008 by Hyphen

Tunj

If for some reason you didn’t download the 2 Dope Boyz mixtape last week, slap yourself and grab the no-DJ version of one of the best tracks on there, Tunji‘s “Still Risin’.”  Sound Session listeners will recognize him from his Inverse material we’ve played over the last year, plus he’s the dude ripping our show intro every week.  Astute heads will also remember this beat originally being used for Kno’s “Get Buck” remix, but he shot it to Tunj to do it justice.

Tunj on the mic and Kno on the beat?  It’s a wrap…

Little Brother rocks Hawaii

Posted in Artists, Live Performances, Videos on August 29th, 2008 by Hyphen

Little Brother

(I was going to embed the video, but Hyph doesn’t do auto-play.  Click the image to watch it.)

The homies Phonte and Big Pooh made their way out to Honolulu for a MySpace sponsored concert recently and the recap just hit the web (swiped from Nah Right).  I’ve only been through Hawaii once, for a 30 minute layover on the way to the Cook Islands, but I’m dying to go back.  I’m sure it’s a blast but I already know that Aitutaki > Hawaii.

Los Angeles People: y’all can catch Little Brother’s excellent live show tonight with the Inverse fam down at the Key Club.  Be there!

Little Inverse

Seattle People: don’t fret, LB will be at Rock The Bells on the 6th…

TiRon on VIMBY

Posted in Artists, Other Peoples' Interviews, Videos on August 22nd, 2008 by Hyphen
VIMBY – Tiron

Another one of the talented artists carrying the torch for the new west is L.A.’s TiRon.  You’ve probably heard of him through his collaborations with Pacific Division or Tunji (of Inverse), but if not, time for you to wake up.  This VIMBY clip can serve as a decent introduction, though it’s more comedy than highlighting his music.  To cover that, make sure you download his Handshakes & Pounds mixtape right here.

Shout to Greg The Dude on the production!

Inverse featured on illRoots

Posted in Artists, Other Peoples' Interviews on August 21st, 2008 by Hyphen

Invy + Ill Roots

One of the best blogs out there, illRoots, linked up with one half of Inverse, Tunji, for a quick Q&A session.  Tunj speaks about the group’s sound, their inspirations, and gives us a little information on their upcoming debut album, Long Day’s Journey.  You can peep the entire interview here.

If you still haven’t downloaded their So Far (The Collection) project, slap yourself and then grab it here.

Pacific Division on VIMBY

VIMBY – Pac Div at Swing House

Since this was from the same show as Inverse’s VIMBY feature, it’s only right that it should get posted now too.  Like, Mibbs, and BeYoung of Pacific Division give a little interview and perform “F.A.T. Boys ’08” and “Paper.”  Dope ish.
