J. Cole – Lost Ones (video)

I’ve been meaning to post up this video for a while and while it’s definitely doing a bit much on the colors, you gotta like any pop/R&B record that calls back to the 80’s & 90’s glory days. The Charlotte Hornet jackets about a quarter of the way in did it for me. I’d much rather hear records like this on the airwaves than Rihanna’s latest Euro-beat “controversial” song…even with the trite hip-hop sample schtick.
While J. Moore is across the pond spending pounds and euros with Shabazz Palaces, I held it down (Hope) solo. Enjoy the show and go buy the following today:
I’ll be adding the French Rosetta Stone collection to my shopping cart as I’ve decided to take my remedial ability up to semi-fluent status this fall/winter. If any of you speak French, holler @ a Hyphen and help me out! Merci.

Jermaine might have my favorite record out at the moment with this one. “THAT’S THE HOOK RIGHT THURR!!!!”
The official visuals for one of my favorite songs of the 2011 summer season finally dropped. Summer, girls, basketball…bet. Be on the look out for Jermaine’s follow up single, “Can’t Get Enough” with Trey Songz, to take over radio and television soon as well. Cole World!
I’m sure most of you have seen the “Otis” video by now, but I’m guessing there are a few folks like myself that spend the work week focused on the day job and getting to that Watch The Throne level. I’ve seen the song and video analyzed ad nauseum, but I did enjoy Toure’s breakdown of the swag off between Hov & Yeezy. Check it out here.
And while I’m a huge Jermaine fan, this is hilarious:
#ColeWorld.
As the hip-hop community, and all who love music, reel from the loss of the legendary Gil Scott-Heron, I thought to myself about the messages in his records. Do today’s artists have the desire and ability to make music that elevates to the levels Gil effortlessly resided in?Â
While mass media would certainly tell you otherwise, I think they can. We certainly need music that offers us escape, but it’s vitally important that we continue to create good music with real purpose.
Shout to Kendrick for doing just that with one of the best songs of 2011 so far.
Cole and Drizzy could have made a larger production for the “In The Morning” video, but these visuals shot during their European string of concerts works nicely. The best way to start your day!
Another week and still busy…hmm, I’m sensing a pattern. In any event, peep this week’s edition of SNSS for tons of dope music from cats like K.R.I.T., CyHi Da Prynce, Shad, Kendrick Lamar, Hell Razah, Slakah The BeatChild, and more. If you aren’t up on these folks, that’s the reason we do what we do.
Also be sure to stay tuned for our full interview with J. Cole (missed the first full one? peep it here) and check out the quick footage I grabbed of Jay Electronica at Bumbershoot a few weeks ago…
