SNSS x The Physics

(L-R: Hyphen, Justo & Thig of The Physics, and J. Moore in 2012)

Continuing our string of Sound Session guest hosts, this week we welcomed some of J. Moore’s favorite artists (and people!) in the town, The Physics and Malice & Mario Sweet.  We chatted about their work and personal relationships with Jon, and played a few of his favorite records from the Physics family.  Any loyal SNSS listener knows how much we love their crew, so it was impossible to pick just one track to play.  Enjoy those classics, plus new records from Logic, Jidenna, Kendrick, Rozay, GoldLink, Joey Badass x J. Cole, Stormzy, Evidence, Asher Roth x The Cool Kids, J.I.D, and more.

I also highly recommend you check out this tribute to Jon that our friends at The Biggest Podcast put together.  You can also listen on any podcast app (iOS users, click here).

Rest In Peace Jon.

SNSS

Another week of Sound Session, another episode packed full of good music and good conversation with some of our favorite folks in the Northwest.  This week, Miguel Rockwell (host of The Biggest podcast and member of Clockwork, the fellas responsible for the first local music we played on SNSS) and Sol joined Nphared and I to catch up, talk shop, and share some more memories of J. Moore.  We also ran new cuts from Raekwon, Joey Badass + Schoolboy Q, Logic, Anna Wise, Jidenna, Sylvan LaCue, Brother Ali, GoldLink, Kendrick, and more.  Throwback in honor of the first album I ever bought, an absolute classic.

Sound Session #566 (8/28/16)

Posted in Episodes, Sound Session on September 2nd, 2016 by Hyphen

SNSS

What up everyone, hope you’re all well!  It feels like it’s been a hell of a week with all the Colin Kaepernick nonsense (no, not his very sensible, very American, very peaceful protest of police brutality and systematic oppression…I mean the reaction from many fans and way too many folks in sports media) and Trump’s latest efforts to singlehandedly destroy America (advantage Pena Nietoand me), so hopefully a little music can take your mind off it.  I did have to weigh in on Kap, but if you follow me on social media, you knew that was coming.

New music on this week’s SNSS from Anderson .Paak, T.I., Vince Staples, Ryan Caraveo, Big Gigantic & Pell, Leikeli47, Loyle Carner, Mac Miller & CeeLo, Mick Jenkins, Cashmere Cat & The Weeknd & Francis and the Lights, and more.  Two throwbacks to celebrate one of the greatest rap albums of all time.

Also be sure to check out my appearance on The Biggest podcast with the homies Miguel Rockwell and HawkinsBird.  We basically just nerded out and touched on all sorts of topics, so if you’ve ever wanted to know a bunch of random Hyphen related trivia, now’s your chance.  You can stream/download their podcast on all apps (iTunes, Stitcher, etc.) and right here online.

Enjoy!

The Biggest podcast with DJ Hyphen

Posted in Interviews, Other Peoples' Interviews, Radio, Random Ish, Sound Session on September 1st, 2016 by Hyphen

Fresh off a year-long stint across the pond my bro DJ Hyphen comes through for one of my favorite episodes to date. We spend minimal time on his back story and then delve into everything that comes to our minds from Game Of Thrones to Kanye. A true convo amongst music nerds. This is what The Biggest is all about. #ItsTheBiggest

The longtime homey Miguel Rockwell recently invited me on his super dope podcast series, The Biggest, and the episode is up now for y’all to check out.  I really enjoyed this convo with Mike and his cohost Joe “HawkinsBird” Hawkins, who Mike affectionately refers to as “the most redundant man I’ve ever known.”  They’ve been recording some great conversations with all sorts of folks in the Seattle hip-hop scene, so it was an honor to sit down with them and chop it up.

There’s all sorts of random Hyphen-related trivia sprinkled in here as we completely nerd out about random topics.  This is probably the most you’ll ever hear me talk, so you’ve been warned!  Enjoy!

Clockwork – Hold On (video)

Posted in Artists, Music Videos on July 2nd, 2009 by Hyphen

Now that it’s my day job to watch music videos all day, I see damn near every clip that gets released.  As such, when a dope one comes around, I’m always extra impressed because I know how much effort gets put into the good ones…and I know how easy it is for folks to cut corners and release wack visuals, even for dope tracks.

We’ve been pretty blessed in the Seattle hip-hop scene to have produced some great videos recently (The Saturday Knights, They Live, The Physics, Choklate, and Zia Mohajerjasbi’s work with the Blue Scholars and Common Market, among others), and now we’ve got another from Clockwork.  The three man crew comprised of Lace Cadence, Take One, and Miguel Rockwell just released “Hold On” from their last album, Future Pastime, and it’s easily one of the cleanest videos I’ve seen in a minute.  There are some great effects to match up with the crystal clear images, plus the track is dope.

Cop Future Pastime on iTunes right here and follow the crew on Twitter as well.
