The Audacity of Dope

Big news for our station this week as we announced that our old friend, Eddie Francis, will be returning to host KUBE 93’s night show starting September 2nd!  To celebrate and help spread the news, Eddie came by SNSS this week and hung out with J. Moore, myself, and DV One.  Felt great to be surrounded by family and play some dope music for our extended family, you guys.  On this week’s show, we ran cuts from Vince Staples, G-Unit, Spesh, DJ Premier, Saigon, Porter Ray, STL GLD, Rapper Big Pooh, OnCue, Drake, MINH, 1-O.A.K., Azad Right, Ian Kamau, J. Cole, Bas, and more.

If you follow me on Twitter (and if you don’t, you should…#humblebrag), you know that I was down at SXSW last week in lovely Austin, Texas. The first night that I arrived, the staff at MTV hooked up a pass for the MTVu Woodie Awards and I got my first experience on a red carpet. Aside from just enjoying the overall environment, I was able to chop it up with everyone who walked by. I grabbed a couple quick videos for y’all with Wiz, Yelawolf, Skylar Grey, and Lil B. Enjoy.

I look forward to the day when Toby and Tunji are rich and famous so I can brag to people that I used to DJ for ’em when we were in college.  These guys played such an important part in the development of “DJ Hyphen” (yes!  first 3rd person reference on the blog ftw!) that it means a lot to finally see their first music video released to the public.  This is a great day…

As I mentioned in the post for the viral clip of “We Made It,” Kee & Zee’s newest video for “Alright With Me” has already been picked up by MTVu.  Dopeness.  Phonte had like 8 bars in this track and killed it.  Shout to all my Cali familia in the video too…

Off the brand new Common Market digital release, Winter’s End EP, here’s the MTVu debut of RA Scion & Sabzi’s “Escaping Arkham.”  With Zia at the directorial helm, you already know the visuals are going to be flawless.  He’s really one of the most underrated directors in the game nationally…it won’t be long until people are flying him all around the country to do their videos.

Sidenote:  mobbing down to SXSW with a lot of Seattle folks, RA and Sabzi included, was one of my highlights of last week.  We have a ton of talent in the town and if you aren’t aware, you’re sleeping.  Plus, everyone is cool as hell…

Since my other job deals with music videos, I think TAOD is going to end up showcasing even more dope clips than I would have previously.  Here’s the new one for Donny Goines’ “I Am Moving,” a track that premiered on MTVu earlier today.  Fans of DMX’s It’s Dark and Hell Is Hot will remember the producer, Dame Grease, from “Get At Me Dog,” “Damien,” “Stop Being Greedy,” the criminally underrated classic, “The Convo,” and more.

You can help get the homey Donny into rotation on MTVu by voting for him right here.  Support hip-hop and cast a vote against generic emo pop rock at the same time.  Seems like a win/win to me.

This has been in the works forever, so I’m glad to see the super dope video for U-N-I‘s “Soul Hop” finally drop.  Not only did it take the net by storm, but it was officially added to MTVu on Monday and will be getting lots of love on the MTV Networks.  The homies Thurz & Y-O are doing big things!  Couldn’t happen to nicer dudes or doper artists.  Be on the lookout for The Love Supreme EP dropping soon…

The homey Substantial has been making crazy moves lately with his single, “It’s You (I Think),” off his Sacrifice album, and now he needs your help to keep the momentum going.  The video is one of five finalists in a MTVu contest, where the winner goes into regular rotation on the station.  It’s real easy to vote, and Stan deserves your support so get to it and vote as many times as you’d like!
