Marco is one of my favorite producers these days and honestly, nobody is really seeing him on some straight up boom-bap head nodding type slaps. Check out this clip to watch him piece together sounds from multiple sources to make yet another banger.
Cop MP’s project with Torae, Double Barrel, in stores now! Support dope music & good dudes.
The homey Donny Goines is one of the hardest working and dopest MC’s on the come up right now. If you tuned in to SNSS this past week, you heard us run “Sublime” off his brand new project, The Breakfast Club, and now the album is out…for free! So as I was saying, people who run around complaining that NYC has fallen off have no idea what they’re talking about, plain and simple. Regardless of what superstars are dominating the mainstream hip-hop coverage, New York artists like PackFM and Domingo have been releasing quality music for years. So remember all those years where you saw nothing but shiny suits and XXXXXXXXXXL white tee’s and you pined for “real” hip-hop?
It’s been there the whole time. Stop sleeping. PackFM & Domingo’s I F*cking Hate Rappers drops soon…
Daytona’s one of my favorite MC’s right now and he’s gearing up for the release of his debut, Come Fly With Me. Before that, The Daytona 500 will be dropping on 5/5/09. Info on the project below:
I was just talking to my boy Eddie yesterday about how Joey is a real entertaining dude and his Joe Budden TV episodes are generally pretty fun to watch, especially considering there’s rarely a point to them. This one’s no different really, just Joe chilling outside of the club with Drake, but again…fun to watch. Drizzy!
I mentioned this at the end of last night’s SNSS (which I’ll post up late tonight), so I thought I’d toss up the video for y’all. Drake took NYC by storm at the end of last week and closed it out with a live show at SUNY Purchase. If you weren’t convinced that this dude is going to be a huge star, watch how the audience is singing/rapping every word to “Best I Ever Had” like it’s the biggest song out right now. Oh…and it was girls too…so you know Drizzy is gonna blow the hell up this summer.
Nothing spectacular, but I dig this track and video from Blaq Poet and DJ Premier. You could easily tell me this was from ’99 and I wouldn’t think twice. Great use of Akon’s vocals…woah, never thought I’d say that.
The downside of being able to work from home due to the Seattle snow is that I’ve been firmly planted at the computer for the last 12 hours. So when the homies are about their business and provide perfect descriptions for stuff to post, it makes one happy Hyphen. Take it away fellas:
Follow a night in the life of new supergroup Idle Warship (Talib Kweli + Res + Graph Nobel) as they travel through NYC, hit the studio to record, DJ a set at a club, perform, and generally talk sh*t. You can also preview new songs from the group’s forthcoming mixtape and album. Shot/Edited by Court Dunn for Restless Films. Second camera Andrew Baxter.
Shout to young Tunj for sending this through and peace to the entire Blacksmith fam. As a bonus, Tunj included the song featured heavily in this clip:

…but he makes dope music off it, so I ain’t mad!
The homey Brainstorm of Dyme Def won our 2008 Redbull Big Tune beat battle a while back and now he’s preparing for the finals out in NYC. Peep the preview video and get familiar with young Brainy Stacks. Shout to our runner up, Rising Son, who will also be representing Seattle in the finals. Good luck fellas!
Check out the brand new single from one of the nicest up and coming MC’s in the game, NYC’s Donny Goines. This will be on his debut album, Minute After Midnight, dropping in December. Get ready.
