J Dilla – Still Shining

When Zumbi & Amp dropped The Take Over, we played the hell out of this record on Sound Session. The beat is pretty simple, but when paired with that hook, it’s insanely catchy. Overall, it’s definitely one of my favorite songs of the past year.
Kay Slay should be on the remix though. Just cause.
Tunji and GregTheDude linked up with one of my favorite groups out right now, the Knux, down at USC for this OkayplayerTV piece. In case you’re sleeping, you need to peep the Knux’s Remind Me In 3 Days album…one of the illest projects of last year.
GregTheDude and Tunji took OkayplayerTV around Los Angeles to link up with Thes-One and Double K, better known as the People Under The Stairs. The duo talked about how they originally linked up, their recording history, their new Fun DMC album, and their video for “The Wiz.” That clip is one of my favorites from this past year, though I never would have guessed that the weather was awful when they shot it in Australia. It always looked like the perfect summer joint to me:
Sidenote: it’s not smart to watch a video like that on a day when we’re snowed in here in Seattle. Even if it was freezing down there, it makes me miss summer like craaaazy.
I’ve been trying to tell y’all about Chester French for a minute now, but if you’ve been sleeping, check out their appearance on OKPtv courtesy of GregTheDude and Tunji. D.A. and Max talk about their background, their sound, and misrepresenting Inverse as “an instrumental hip-hop group” hahahah. Not exactly, but he’s still learning. Peep the clip and see why Pharrell signed these dudes immediately after hearing their demo.
It’s a beautiful thing to see some of my favorite people all working together. The homies GregTheDude and Tunji linked up with the other homies Com and Okayplayer to cook up a couple videos for y’all. In these clips, Common talks about his upcoming Universal Mind Control album, politics, his past work, and more. Hit the jump to watch the other two pieces and click here to check the last time we had Com on Sound Session.
Erykah Badu linked up with OKP and the homies Tunj and GregTheDude to talk about her inspirations, her live performance, and her music. She also talks briefly about her next album, including plans for a Bilal/Andre 3000 duet!?!?! Chyea.
Yes y’all. I was excited for 8-8-08 for two reasons (and not looking forward to it for one): 1) the Olympics kick off today (or have they already? I dunno with the time difference, I just know I’ll be watching the ceremonies tonight), 2) up and coming artist Theo dropped his mixtape The Birth for y’all to check out. This kid is dope.

The 2nd of 4 Okayplayer TV ‘webisodes’ documenting the Roots Picnic from June 7th in Philly. This one features The Cool Kids, though the recorded audio for their performance is pretty janky. Also, how is Mike gonna wear a shirt THAT baggy, with pants THAT tight. That makes no kind of sense at all.
Swacked from OKP.
