The Audacity of Dope

Apologies for the delay on this week’s episode, but I was busy wrapping up my day job with ESPN so things were a bit hectic.  Special shout and many thanks to all my ESPN folks that I’ve worked with the last few years and especially those that peep this show each week.  It’s been fun!  Thank you guys for everything.  Guess I’ll make the announcement of where I’m headed in the next update…

The title of Sandman’s newest video pretty accurately sums up his whole steez. I’ve always been a big fan of his unique flow, which is on display quite nicely here as well. Dopeness.

Some folks have been wondering who’s rapping on our new SNSS intro each week, but our regular listeners should already be familiar with Homeboy Sandman.  They probably remember us playing this record too, which may be the greatest lyrical example of breaking down the creative process that I’ve ever heard.  No exaggeration.

I imagine that mothers and fathers everywhere can relate to this one. I’m still on #TeamIceGrill though.

“There’s so many things to do / So many people I need to talk to”

Coming off a few days worth of vacation in Canada, that quote kinda sums up how I feel about life right now.  One of my favorite aspects to visiting a city like Vancouver is that the people up there are just far more friendly and outgoing (and interesting) than my fellow Americans.  Sorry folks, it’s true.  Every time I stepped out in Van City, I had fun conversations with people left and right.  Plus, they all instantly treated me like family.  Much appreciated y’all.

There are so many experiences I’m looking forward to having in life and if I can get green lights all along the trip like Aloe, life will be good.

The new video for Mayer’s ode to Detroit makes me really glad I was an 80’s baby, rather than an 80’s adult.  Wow.

Aloe’s given us numerous awesome performances of this record (remember this one?), but it’s so classic that it deserves yet another. Between the suit and the drink, he’s got a sort of Bob Harris, “for relaxing times, make it Suntory time” swag going on.

Plain and simple, Aloe Blacc has murdered everything he’s touched this year.  He might be my artist of the year for 2010…well, if Yeezy didn’t release another 5 mic’er, but in any event, Aloe is up there.  This time he lends a helping hand to the artist formerly known as Medaphor for “Where I’m From.”
