Apologies for the delay on this week’s show, but you know how it goes. Peep this week’s show to hear great music (as always) and the homey Lace Cadence joining us to debut “Moonlight” off his brand new mixtape. J. Moore and I hosted the tape, while it was mixed by DJ B-Mello. Sound familiar? Cop Lace’s tape for the free right here – http://lacecadence.com
Super duper big time shout to Aloe Blacc coming through the studio this past week to bless us with an exclusive performance of his “Politician” record. If you aren’t aware, Aloe has been a dope MC for years but in the last few, he’s started to branch out and really illustrate his musical genius. His new project, Good Things, is, simply put, incredible. It’s one of the best albums of the year and a throwback to when soul music not only sounded great, but also pushed buttons in society. Nowhere is this more evident with “Politician,” a track that only appears as an instrumental reprise on the album.
In studio, Aloe murdered this in one take. I highly recommend you peep it right here – https://www.theaudacityofdope.com/2010/08/15/aloe-blacc-politician-live-on-sound-session/

Aloe Blacc visited us last week and while here, he blessed us with a live performance of “Politician,” singing soulfully and eloquently about our government officials. The full interview is coming soon, but I wanted y’all to see this video ASAP. Nailed it in one take…
Be sure to cop Aloe’s Good Things album on Stones Throw, coming out September 28th. Support good music!
“My purpose for music is positive social change…” – Aloe Blacc
Aloe’s about to drop one of the best albums of the year with September 28th’s Good Things. It looks like he might be headed up to Seattle next week, and if so, we’ll see if he can stop by the SNSS studio. Great to see this longtime MC get some shine with his new project.
Um, this pool party looks enjoyable. Highly.
Though working in the video production world, I must comment on the seemingly poor encode they uploaded. Ugh. Perhaps it had something to do with the waterproof camera, but I would have loved to see a more crisp version of this video. That said, still dope and the song is obviously greatness.
Super dope cover of Tony Bennet’s classic, plus great visuals, from the Mayer himself. I don’t skateboard at all, but I always love these slow motion skate vids. This one was especially crisp…
Woah…not only do we get some dope visuals for this great record, but halfway through, Aloe flips it and gives us a sneak preview of another song off his upcoming Good Things project. Very few artists are as talented all around as this man…I once saw him kill a whole show just playing the trumpet and not even rhyming once.
My favorite track of the month is easily Mayer Hawthorne’s remix of James Pants’ “Thin Moon,” and the fine folks at Stones Throw have given me the go-ahead to post it up for y’all.
James Pants ft. Mayer Hawthorne – “Thin Moon (Remix)”
EDIT: Apparently there was a mix up and the label has now asked for the song to be removed. If you got it, lucky you. If not, you can always tune into Sound Session this week to hear us run it over 100K watts.
Mood music. Enjoy.
Cats need to stop shooting videos that make me miss SoCal. Dopeness.
I’ve been playing the hell out of this track for ages now, ever since it was included at the end of a mixtape Mayer (as DJ Haircut) put out with his group Now On, and I’m still not tired of it. Talk about a timeless joint.
As I mentioned, if you aren’t familiar with this dude, you’ve been sleeping for about a decade. Haircut has been down with the Lab Techs and the almighty Athletic Mic League (peep the Buff1 cameo) for years putting out great albums and making some insane beats. He’s now splitting his time between crafting songs for Now On, killing beat battles (shout to the Big Tune folks), and becoming a worldwide sensation as Mayer Hawthorne. Go head homey…
