Shout to the whole S.A.S. and of course the homey Phonte. In Search of Stoney Jackson is one of the doper records in the past year, but that’s to be expected when Strong Arm links up with Madlib for a full project. Cop that.
I feel like a broken record these days, but since I’m pressed for time again this week, we’ll keep it simple. Check out this week’s show for great music from artists like Crown City Rockers, Sean Price, Murs, J. Cole, Skyzoo, Cormega, Rob Murat, De La Soul, Shad, and more. I think we may have world premiered a new Strong Arm Steady track featuring Talib Kweli too, but I’m not sure. I haven’t seen it out there for the general public quite yet…
We also aired a snippet of our interview with the Clipse, but you can look for the full version (with video) to be posted soon on TAOD. Thanks to B. Nolan at Columbia (where they apparently do play fair…+3 points if you get the reference) for setting that up. Shout to the homey Sonny Bonoho as well for coming through the studio to play a new joint of his featuring Playboy Tre. Enjoy!

In honor of Black History Month, the Blacksmith family has recorded this dope song and video where Phil Da Agony, Chace Infinite, Planet Asia, and Affion Crockett spit about their family heritage. I’m not a huge fan of the beat, but the verses give you a little biography of each dude’s family tree, which is something dope that you rarely hear from MC’s.
Shout to Tunji for sending this one through as well. Hit up the YOTB for more…
(I was going to point out that it’s NSFW, but that’s obvious. Besides, my European side was like “what’s the big deal?”)
I believe this is the 3rd to last video scheduled for Ev’s Layover EP, but I’m not sure what the next one will be. The final (and only ‘big-budget’) clip will be “For Whom The Bell Tolls,” which will be shot at the start of December. If you want to hear more info about Ev’s projects, be sure to peep that interview I did with him and Alchemist a few weeks back right here.
A few weeks ago, the big homies Talib Kweli and Corey Smyth stopped by KUBE to make their 4th appearance on Sound Session. It’s always great to meet and interview people for the first time, but it’s even better once you get to know them and your ‘interviews’ just turn in to catching up with old friends. It probably could have been under better circumstances though, cause right before we got up, this happened. It shows you how cool Talib is that despite just finding out about the theft, he still took time for us before trying to find the laptop. Booooooooo @ that “fan” who took Kwa’s MacBook. Shame on you.
Anyway, if you missed any of the previous discussions, you can check ’em out on our podcast page right here.
This time around, we talked all about his current projects, including updates on the next Reflection Eternal album with Hi-Tek, his Idle Warship group with Res & Graph Nobel, and all things Blacksmith. We also discussed what it’s like to operate his own label, how new media has affected his career, a little politics, and more. Be sure to watch it in high-def on the HyphenTV Vimeo page, or if you only want the audio, grab it below:
Yes…super last minute, but for L.A. readers, go check out a special birthday party tonight for Planet Asia at Busby’s East. Performances by Strong Arm Steady, DJ Muggs, and Asia himself. Should be a great night so check it out if you’re in SoCal and your schedule’s open!
And just in case you’re on the fence, peep Asia & Muggs’ new video for “Lions In The Forest.” This is my jam right now.
LOL @ the required shot of “hot girl washing low rider, ends up watering herself instead.” If that doesn’t scream west coast video, I don’t know what does. Also, I have to ask, what’s up with the random dude doing flips?
Anyway, I’m not mad at it at all. This is exactly the kind of “commercial” type joint that S.A.S. should make…something dope, catchy, and authentic to their sound. I love it. Here’s the track if you don’t already have this 2008 summer anthem:
(LOL @ the Michael Eric Dyson shout…love that dude, pause)
The homies Tunji and Greg The Dude put together this video to introduce y’all to Krondon, Phil The Agony, and Mitchy Slick, collectively known as Strong Arm Steady. You really should already be up on ’em, but if you aren’t, this will get you the basic info. Be on the lookout for Arms & Hammers dropping later this year on Talib’s Blacksmith Music label. If you checked the last episode of Sound Session, you heard the lead single “Can’t Let It Go,” which is a perfect summertime West Best Coast joint. If you missed it, it’s your lucky day:
