The Audacity of Dope

I’m a huge fan of skyline/cityscape pieces, especially when it’s as smooth as this timelapse film of Toronto from Ryan Emond. I need to get to the T. Dot soon. I’m still not ok with Drake popularizing folks calling it “The 6” though. That name is taken.

I’ve been meaning to post this up for a bit, but as usual, better late than never.  Besides is a collection of Shad’s recent guest appearances and remixes, all seamlessly blended by the one and only DJ T-Lo.  The best writer in the game, IMO.

As I was trying to think of a topic for this week’s SNSS wrap up, I couldn’t really get past the shocking realization that it’s already…August.  How…does…this…happen?  Wasn’t it just New Year’s?

Eh well…time is flying and we’re here to provide the soundtrack for your rapidly moving life.  Episode #322 features new tracks from Smoke DZA, Chevy Woods, Inc., Hassaan Mackey, Wordsworth, Charlie Smarts, and one of my favorite mini-sets in quite some time: a 4 song block of Toronto’s finest.  Between Drake, Shad, Kardinal Offishall, and Purple HeArts (well, The Weeknd too, but we didn’t spin him this show), the T-Dot is responsible for all my favorite music from artists not named Kendrick Lamar, Frank Ocean, Dom Kennedy, and Big K.R.I.T. right now.  Must be something in the water up there…or the lack of a debt ceiling.

Shout to the homey G for always giving me the heads up on good music from his hometown, Toronto.  Why is the T-Dot killing it so much these days?!

Any record using the classic Dilla “Let’s Ride” drums is always going to get my head nodding (shout to my guy Tunji too), and I so desperately need more of this grown, genuine, soulful music in my world.

There are only a few cities that I haven’t been to that I would love to visit and Toronto is definitely one of them.  Big up to all T-Dot massive.

Other cities that need Hyphenated visits:  Hong Kong, Tokyo, Sydney, Stockholm, and New York.  Yes, that’s right.  I’ve been in the music biz for 10 years and alive for 28, but haven’t been to NYC yet.  Shrug.

Sound Session listeners will remember this track from a few months ago.  Great record from one of my favorites and one of the most underrated MC’s of all time.  Yeah, I said it.

Melanie is gonna be a star.  The album cuts I heard are even better than the single and she’s real cool people too.  Be on the lookout for her on Sound Session real soon.  Need proof?

Kardi hinted at this video at the end of the clip for “Numba 1,” and now the visuals for “Nina” are here.  When you have a song as good as this one, you don’t really need anything fancy for the video to turn out dope.  Plus, I’m not mad at that girl in the car at all.
