Tanya Morgan ft. Spec Boogie & 6th Sense – The Vehicle (video)

Posted in Artists, Music Videos on November 29th, 2013 by Hyphen

One of my favorite tracks off the exceptional Rubber Souls album gets a fun, and fitting, video treatment.  Be sure to let the track finish so you can hear the Shuggie Otis reference and flip at the end.

KEEP GOIN 6TH!

Check out this week’s episode of SNSS for new dopeness from the likes of Young Chris, Curren$y, Astro, Pusha T, Dynasty, Vic Mensa, RJD2, Chuuwee, CJ Fly, Isaiah Rashad, Mack Wilds, Blu, Black Mil, Bondax, and more.  Our good friends Tanya Morgan and 6th Sense also called in to discuss their new album, Rubber Souls, which is one of the best releases of the year.  With lots of folks starting to think about their “best of the year” lists, you’re doing yourself a disservice if you don’t peep Rubber Souls and get it on there.  Trust me.

Shad ft. Von Pea & Donwill – Rose Garden (Remix)

Posted in Artists, Joints on September 23rd, 2010 by Hyphen

I’m so glad to see the rest of the country is starting to catch on to what Canadians (and TAOD readers/SNSS listeners) have known for years: Shad is one of the illest MC’s out there.  In fact, I dare you to find a better MC who speaks on more realness than Shad K.  The Tanya Morgan homies, Von Pea & Donwill, hopped on the remix to “Rose Garden,” which also features a new verse from Shad.  Remember, the US version of T.S.O.L. drops on October 5th…enjoy!

Shad ft. Von Pea & Donwill – “Rose Garden (Remix)”

And of course, the original video, in case you missed it:

Seattle people: I’m going to see you at Nectar on Friday, October 8th for K-Os and Shad…right?

Sound Session #201 (4-5-09)

Posted in Episodes, Sound Session on April 7th, 2009 by Hyphen

Fresh off last week’s 200th edition of SNSS, we’re hitting you over the head with another dope show, this time, packed full of exclusive joints that I believe we world premiered Sunday on KUBE.  In today’s internet age, the traditional idea of ‘exclusives’ has pretty much gone out the window, and regardless, I’ve never even been that big a fan of the whole notion anyway.  Simply because a DJ plays something first, doesn’t make it worthwhile (“NEW SOULJA BOY!!!!”).

Instead, this past week, we ran some great songs that the general public just hasn’t heard yet, but everyone will probably have soon.  Some of them will be included on our upcoming Cornerstone Mixtape (with some other exclusives), but who knows if they’ll leak before that drops in May.  Speaking of which, DJ B-Mello, J. Moore, and I finished up the mixtape last night (shout to Taybot and L for the engineering assistance!) and it sounds fresh.  Looking forward to y’all hearing it, but for now, peep the show and some world premieres from Fashawn (prod. Exile), Roddy Rod ft. Phonte & Carlitta Durand, Asher Roth, and Tanya Morgan ft. Blu.  [Kanye] Good music definitely in the building! [/Yeezy]

Show #201 (4-5-09)

  1. Donnis – “Party Works”
  2. CunninLynguists ft. Khujo Goodie & Killer Mike – “Georgia (Remix)”
  3. Drake – “November 18th”
  4. Kid Cudi – “Rollin’ Freestyle”
  5. Kid Cudi ft. Kanye West, Common, & A-Trak – “I Poke Her Face”
  6. Melanie Fiona ft. Talib Kweli – “Give It To Me Right (Remix)”
  7. J. Pinder ft. Shawn Starr – “Havin’ Problems” (Local Artist)
  8. Crooked I & DJ Wicked – “Jackin’ For Beats 2009”
  9. Bishop Lamont – “Friends”
  10. Method Man & Redman – “Mrs. International”
  11. Fashawn – “The Outer City” (WORLD PREMIERE)
  12. Outasight ft. The Kid Daytona & Donny Goines – “Fame & Fortune (Remix)”
  13. Shad – “Exile”
  14. Illa J ft. Grynch – “Showtime (Remix)” (Local Artist)
  15. Roddy Rod ft. Phonte (of Little Brother) & Carlitta Durand – “This Time Around” (WORLD PREMIERE)
  16. U-N-I & Ro Blvd – “Lauren London”
  17. Pac Div – “Shut Up”
  18. Common Market – “Escaping Arkham” (Local Artist)
  19. Scratch ft. Musiq – “Tonite”
  20. Asher Roth – “La Di Da” (WORLD PREMIERE)
  21. Keelay & Zaire ft. Supastition & Slo Mo (of Fortilive) – “Trapped”
  22. Tanya Morgan ft. Blu – “Morgan Blu” (WORLD PREMIERE)
  23. Mayer Hawthorne – “Just Ain’t Gonna Work Out”

Homeboy Sandman, P. Casso, & Von Pea – SXSW Cypher

Posted in Artists, Live Performances, Videos on March 28th, 2009 by Hyphen

I’m pretty sure I walked right by this as it was winding down and I was hustling in to the Nah Right & Smoking Section Showcase in Austin.  These kind of impromptu cyphers were breaking out all over the city just cause the vibe was like this all weekend.  Shout to Sandman, P. Casso, Low Key, and the Hip-Hop Official folks, all of whom I met for the first time down there (the shout to Tanya Morgan goes without saying!).

Donuts Are Forever 3

Posted in Artists, Live Performances, Videos on February 27th, 2009 by Hyphen

Damn, I slacked on posting this right after it happened, but better late than never right?  If you don’t know, Donuts Are Forever, is a great event honoring the legendary J Dilla that’s now in its third year in NYC.  DJ’s including Waajeed and Ge-ology spun some of Dilla’s classic joints and 2/3 of Tanya Morgan, Von Pea & Donwill, hosted.  Speaking of those fellas, I need to post up the interview we did a while back.  Cool ass dudes and some of my favorite artists doing it today.

But anyway, shout to Rare Form for throwing this event and Dee Phunk for sending over the recap video.  When is someone in Seattle going to launch something similar?  I might even come out of my live mixing retirement for that…since nobody ever rocks one of my favorite Dilla beats

Freestyle In The Park w/Tanya Morgan

Posted in Artists, Live Performances on August 21st, 2008 by Hyphen

The homies over at Ruby Hornet continue their excellent “Freestyle In The Park” series with this edition featuring Tanya Morgan.  If you’re sleeping, Tanya Morgan Is A Rap Group and Von Pea and Donwill (shout to Ilyas) spit some verses from their latest EP, The Bridge.  You can also check out another page on Ruby Hornet where they break down the inspiration behind their “We Doin’ Our” cut, which astute listeners will remember hearing on Sound Session when it first dropped.

Seattle people: y’all can catch TM at the Showbox (Market) on Sept. 26th as part of the “Freshly Dipped Tour” (more dates on the site), alongside the Hieroglyphics, Musab, Knobody, and hometown heroes, The Blue Scholars.  Should be a great show!
