The Kid Daytona links up with German production duo JR & PH7 for “Humid Nights” off The Good Life.  Check out the project right here if you’ve been sleeping.  Along with Daytona, the guests featured include Sean Price, Skyzoo, Guilty Simpson, Chuuwee, King Mez, Fly.Union, Phonte, Median, Torae, Freeway, Saigon, Ras Kass, and more.  Very solid lineup.

The Kid Daytona ft. Aloe Blacc – New Yorker’s Ambition (video)

Posted in Artists, Music Videos on January 7th, 2012 by Hyphen

While Daytona recently released his second Interlude project, he also just dropped this video for “NYA” off the first edition.  I prefer the first volume overall, but they’re both great.  Cop them here and here if you’ve been sleeping.

The Kid Daytona & 6th Sense – The Making Of “Camelot” (video)

Posted in Artists, Live Performances, Other Peoples' Interviews, Videos on June 16th, 2011 by Hyphen

Big shout to Daytona for sending over the behind the scenes footage of him and 6th in the studio cooking up a record called “Camelot.”  I don’t think fans get to see these scenes enough, and certainly, nobody gets to see 6th’s beard enough. No word on where/when this song will be released, but I’m sure you’ll hear it on SNSS when it drops!

The Kid Daytona ft. Freddie Gibbs and Alex (of the Kickdrums) – Take Aim (video)

Posted in Artists, Music Videos on March 11th, 2011 by Hyphen

New visuals from Derek Pike off Daytona’s The Interlude tape, which is one of the few recent releases to achieve the vaunted “Hyphen’s iPod” status.  In other words, it’s dope as hell.  Download it here.

The Kid Daytona – On The Hill (video)

Posted in Artists, Music Videos on January 29th, 2011 by Hyphen

Visuals for one of the songs that made SNSS‘ “Best of 2010” show a few weeks back.  This was filmed out here in the San Juan Islands while Daytona and others (include Aloe Blacc, who you can see in this video) shot the new LRG catalog.

And this song gets eternal props for the Above The Rim reference.  As always.

The Kid Daytona – The Interlude (mixtape)

Posted in Artists, Mixtapes on November 20th, 2010 by Hyphen

I’ve been waiting for Daytona’s The Interlude project to drop for a minute and it’s finally here.  It doesn’t disappoint one bit either…some of the best music out this side of Kanye right now.  Inspired by that golden era that I know we all miss.  Be sure to grab this ASAP!

The Kid Daytona ft. Bun B – Air Born (video)

Posted in Artists, Music Videos, Sports on September 9th, 2009 by Hyphen

I absolutely love this track off The Kid Daytona’s Come Fly With Me project (download here).  The homey 6th Sense murdered the beat and Tona’s flow is so ill on it.  Shout to Three/21 Media and Derek Pike on the direction for the visuals too.  Great job all around.

Some words from the director Derek Pike:

Last week I shot the “Air Born” video for The Kid Daytona featuring Bun B. The beat which is produced by 6th Sense has this real mellow floaty vibe to it so I knew I wanted to shoot the majority of this video with someone or something floating in midair. Since shooting in outerspace wasn’t in the budget, I had to settle for NYC. Luckily, Daytona knew someone here on earth that could defy gravity for us, EBCstar Africa. We shot the whole video at a little park downtown, no permits. Aside from having to work around screaming kids at camp, and a basketball leagues scheduled game everything went surprisingly smooth. Daytona and Bun B are two of the nicest and most laid back artists I have ever worked with. Shout outs to the Three/21 fam Rik, Nancy and Steve, Jamal, Owen, Jordan at Sneaktip, Dan, Evan, and of course Daytona, Bun B, 6th and Africa.

Jet Audio ft. The Kid Daytona – Lose Your Mind (video)

Posted in Artists, Music Videos on July 15th, 2009 by Hyphen

You may remember this track from our recent Cornerstone Mixtape (download here!) and now it gets some fresh visuals.  There’s something really ill about Daytona’s delivery to me…he needs to do a track with Slick Rick and go back and forth with that conversational flow.

The Kid Daytona – Come Fly With Me (album)

Posted in Artists, Mixtapes on July 1st, 2009 by Hyphen

I’ve been waiting for Daytona’s official album to drop for a minute and the day is finally here.  Don’t get it twisted either…despite my blog tag calling Come Fly With Me a mixtape, this is indeed a full length project full of original material…and it’s dope as hell.  Peep the press release if you need to get up to speed on Daytooooooooona and then download the project below.

New York, NY – The Kid Daytona, born in Atlanta, GA to a set of Caribbean parents, grew up with a unique blend of cultural identities, which was only further expanded by his teenage years in The Bronx, NY. It was these formative years in New York’s northern borough that led The Kid Daytona to his current path as a musician — and the June 30th release of his full length studio album, Come Fly With Me.

The flight path leading  to the release of Come Fly With Me has been a long one. The Kid Daytona attained early success when his group The Aces was signed to Atlantic Records in 2002. Though the group dismantled shortly thereafter, Daytona managed to establish himself in the eyes of legendary MC Busta Rhymes, who quickly enlisted the young artist for a role in Flipmode Squad. In addition to Busta Rhymes, Daytona has also been blessed with the guidance of Cipha Sounds (Hot 97 WQHT), who has helped create the dynamic artist that appears on Come Fly With Me.  Daytona and Cipha started out by releasing A Tribe Called Fresh in 2008,  which garnered the attention of major media outlets like The Fader. Daytona explains that, “the success of the Tribe tape helped me realize it was time to put an official album together. I want people to be able to hear my music, and this is best way for me to make that happen – by making it available, and doing it well.”

On Come Fly With Me, The Kid Daytona shares airspace with musical superstars such as Bun B (UGK), Kardinal Offishall, and seasoned newcomers such as Mickey Factz, Amanda Diva, Harlem’s Cash, Outasight, and more. Production credits for the album include 6th Sense, Double 0 (Kidz In The Hall), Cook Classics, Jet Audio, Ill Bomb, The Government, and Deputy.

Both Come Fly With Me and its single, “Contact” featuring Kardinal Offishall, will be distributed digitally by Community JUICE beginning Tuesday, June 30, 2009.

The Kid Daytona – The Daytona 500

Posted in Artists, Mixtapes on May 5th, 2009 by Hyphen

As I alluded to here, The Kid Daytona is one of the nicest MC’s doing it right now and I’m anxiously awaiting his debut album, Come Fly With Me.  To help set up the project and make sure that people are aware of the talent, he’s teamed up with Mick Boogie to drop The Daytona 500.  Each track flips the same legendary sample that Ghostface used (Bob James’ “Nautilus”), but Daytona and his stable of producers make each joint different and their own.  You need to download this immediately.

1.  The First Lap
2.  The Wings {prod. 6th Sense}
3.  The Body {prod. Ill Bomb}
4.  The Engine {prod. Double 0}
5.  The Navigation {prod. Jet Audio}
6.  The Take Off (Flight) {prod. The Government}
7.  The Pit Crew *BONUS TRACK* feat. Outasight, Harlem’s Cash, 6th Sense {prod. 6th Sense}

Download here.

Also, be on the lookout for another Daytona/Jet Audio collaboration on our upcoming Cornerstone Mixtape.  #115 drops any day now…peep the tracklisting here.
