Ah yes! After a few months of anxious waiting, we’ve received the follow up to The Weeknd’s House of Balloons in the form of Thursday, a 9 song EP that picks up where his debut left off. On my first few listens, no, it’s not quite as impressive as Balloons, but that isn’t much of a slight.
House of Balloons is an automatic classic in my book and Thursday has a few moments that live up to that level. Even the parts that don’t are still dope, but bottom line, either you like The Weeknd‘s sound or you don’t. There is no middle ground and this tape won’t change your mind one way or the other.
Personally, I love it.
Sexy/Emo/Baller/Depressed music all in one, perfect for the loft and for the upcoming cold season. I don’t think you’ll find a better 2am soundtrack this winter, but ladies, if you do, please let me know…
Download here.
Not only do you get to see Philly Freezer and Jake tear it down, but you get an opening set from my favorite group in Seattle, The Physics, plus DJ’ing by the legendary Vitamin D all night. Gonna be a crazy show, be there at Neumo’s on Thursday!
As I mentioned a few days ago in the post with U-N-I’s live performance of “Beautiful Day” on my radio show, I DJ’d for their set at the Seattle stop of the DunkXChange last Saturday (yes, that’s my ill Kanye t-shirt in the background). It took me a minute, but I got a video medley of joints from the performance up for y’all to check out.
Remember to set your YouTube accounts to play high quality videos. Click on “account”, then “video playback quality”, and then select “I have a fast connection. Always play higher-quality video when it’s available.” It makes a huge difference, especially with Flip Cam stuff. Unfortunately, if you embed high quality YouTube videos, you can’t fast forward them and there’s all sorts of extra html code. So if you want to peep the better quality, watch it at YouTube here.
In other U-N-I news, check them out in a new interview at Okayplayer and in the July issue of The Source (w/Game on the cover). Told you the homies were doing big things! Go befriend them on their MySpace.
