Musiq – “Radio”

This is so wack.  Not only is the song awful, but it’s such an obvious attempt to pander to the dumbed down radio audience.  Horrible beat, horrible melody, horrible lyrics, and a blatantly moronic hook.  I know some of y’all thought this song was a joke of some sort when I first posted it up, but it looks like Musiq is really going to put all of us through this.  I’m looking forward to hearing the album (apparently titled Aijuswanaselle), but if there’s any more crap like this on it, I’m taking him off my list of favorite singers.  “I’m not mad Musiq…I’m…I’m disappointed.”

This has always been one of my pet peeves.  If you reeeeeally have to twist how a word is pronounced to make it rhyme, it doesn’t.  The only dude who pulls it off reasonably well is Wyclef, but that’s often questionable too.  This particular indiscretion by T-Pain just makes me cringe.  Peep for yourself, 31 seconds in:

The Jello line rarely works man.  Dope album though.  Dwele’s really consistent, though I’ve heard complaints that he doesn’t stray out of his comfort zone enough.  I agree he could be more experimental and vary his sound, but then again, we just saw what happened when Musiq tried that.  I’ll take that signature Dwele sound all day if that’s what he’s comfortable with, even if there’s a wack lyric here and there…

A new Cam’Ron track hit the net last week, and sure enough, Cam promptly shows up with 2 nice lines for WLotD.

Not a wack lyric really, but just a nice contradiction since he’s on the July cover.  Like I always say, hypocrisy is the forgotten element of hip-hop.

Weezy fans must hate me for using him as a WLotD entry so often, but it’s kinda like the car theft statistics: Honda Civics are always stolen the most because they’re so many of ’em. So yeah, Wayne clearly has talent…but when you’re releasing 5 new verses a day, and you’re already starting to enter your Eminem Encore phase, it’s just a perfect storm. Sorry.

Another day, another puzzling, rambling, pathetic verse from Wayne leaks to the net. Take your pick:

Man, labels are making my job easy. I don’t even have to search for these, they come right to my inbox every day. LL may be a legend, but he manages to fire off multiple wack lines in his new single featuring The Dream, the creatively titled…”Baby.” Sigh. Here’s a sampling:

“Hot sex on a platter, no need to cook/I let her steal my heart like a horny crook”
“My pulp ain’t fiction, it’s an addiction/To see your booty clap on the floor in the kitchen”
“Nasty girl, taught me all the lingo/Mama played bingo/She ride mandingo/She don’t give a damn if I’m married or single/She makes me tingle!”
“She lookin’ for a man that could give her a break/Like Usher or Justin Tim-ber-lake/I’m really not sure if her breasts are fake/Cause with whipped cream on ’em, they taste just like cake”

And in the last verse he breaks out the stale Nelly impression and fires off a depressing string of “surrre/currr/hurrr/everywurrrr” rhymes.

Oh, I can’t forget The Dream on the hook too. In stirring lyrics that evoke the complex emotions of love and heartbreak that only classic soul music can provide, he channels a young Stevie and sings:

“I’m your baby, I’m your baby, I’m your baby, I’m your baby, I’m your baby, your baby, your baby, your baby/I’m your baby, your baby, your baby, your baby, I’m your baby, your baby, yeah, yeaaaah, yeaaaaaah, hell yeaaaaah”

LL Cool J ft. The Dream – “Baby”

In much doper LL related news, Info posted up an ill segment of Tony Toca‘s radio show where Eminem (still alive!?!) prank called Touch and LL. Definitely a much better listen than the single. Wow @ that ish getting 30K downloads in a day. Anything Em touches blows the hell up.

I was working out & listening to Harlem World yesterday and while the album is a personal classic, I heard this line I had apparently erased from memory:

I remember this dropping when I was a sophomore in high school, and I loved damn near every track. I ain’t ashamed. This is still my JAM:
